Meteor time

Well right now we are passing though the trail of Comet Giacobini-Zinner which produces the Draconid meteor shower. The maximum for this shower is the 9th and 10th of October and although this is only a minor shower it may be possible to see a few meteors this weekend.
But... From the 15th to the 29th of this month we will be passing though the trail of Halley’s Comet which produces the Orionids. This shower radiates from... you guessed it... Orion. Best viewed in the early hours, with the radiant center being a bit to the left of Betelgeuse in the eastern sky(If in the southern hemisphere where the sky is all the wrong way round, Orion is stood on his head so it should be just below Betelgeuse). Maximum for this shower should be around the 20th to 22nd of October and should be more noticeable than the Draconids.
Both these showers are fairly minor compared to the Perseids. But should you be out in the early hours with a clear sky, It will be worth looking upwards.
Next months showers are the Leonids and Taurids.
