Summer starting off good

So I started my externship on Monday this week and even though I was super nervous that morning, everything the past two days has been good. Even though the vet I've been hanging out with has been grilling me non-stop, it has been good b/c I at least gain some confidence when I am right or learn something when I'm wrong. Plus he doesn't give a crap if I know nothing or if I palpate a cow and tell him that I felt one uterine horn but had no idea if the cow was pregnant or not (he knows I'm still new at it so it's all good). Interesting cases so far....the best one is by far the c-section that I got to see and help out with a bit (there's always something about seeing a newborn take it's first breath that is exciting). Other things I've seen.... retained placenta, scouring calf, severe mastitis, some footrots, and a calf with possible PME or listeriosis, or some other CNS disease. All in all it's been a good start to my externship, I even got to see some horsies today and next Wednesday Jeff and I are going to head out and watch a horse castration, so it should be good.

Beyond that not much else has been going on. I'm still reading when I have the chance and once I get into the routine and stop staying late at the clinic then I will get back to my running and working out. The good news is that I won't have any weekends or on-calls to do so my schedule is pretty much set out for me and I can plan my summer. That means I can do fun stuff so if anyone is around on weekends and wants to do anything then give me a shout.
