He Told Oprah About Me…

I admit it; I love Oprah. She has always been my mentor at a distance, a legend, a measuring stick of career effectiveness and good karma. Yes, it has been my dream to be on the Oprah show. If you’re going to dream, dream big!
I am on a perpetual high. I absolutely love what I am doing. I have a list of great clients that really challenge me and inspire me with their perseverance and dedication to their dreams. It has a reciprocal benefit. I gain much knowledge into myself from our coaching calls. They allow me to share pieces of myself as we find the words, thoughts and ideas that strike a chord and elicit progress and change. I am left with such a feeling of admiration and bliss in the way they intentionally overcome their struggles and take great steps to achieve their goals. It makes me a better person, and invites and motivates me to work even more to fulfill my own dreams. On a regular basis, little miracles are coming into my world with every step and at every juncture. I am filled with gratitude.
I have a client who was referred to me by a direct rival of his. That in itself is a huge statement. It is thrilling for me to consider the confidence and successful swagger that allowed him to recommend me to his competitor, and the feeling of good will, mutual respect and kindness that will remain as their bond by this action. My new client is a real estate broker and owns a small brokerage on the New Jersey sea-coast.
We'd been working together for only one week of a ten week program. Each single day, as per our agreement, he went on to our website to publish the journal entry showing the home work he had to do for the week. And each day I corresponded with him supplying him with comments on his journal. During our second call, we discussed lots of topics like relationships, taking responsibility for his happiness, dumping self sacrifice, raising his profits, and living with much morejoy. At the end of the call, he gave me a great gift.
“Kim, I cannot tell you how much better I feel after just one week. I feel much happier. If our coaching program ended today, I would feel I got my money’s worth. Every day I’ve been thinking about just how much you have helped me that I wanted to do something to help you in return. So I wrote a letter to Oprah telling her about you.”
How did he know I wanted to be on Oprah? (Ok, I think that one wasn’t rocket science - who does not love to be on Oprah?) But without any verbal communication on the topic, he unwittingly set the wheels in motion for me to recognize one of my personal aspirations. He wrote that I was “an Egyptian Jew from Canada with a gift that will blow her audience away.”
This was an amazing heartfelt gesture of his gratitude. I am happy that I was able to make a difference in his life. He considers what I do as a ‘gift’. The gift actually is in the way my clients are getting the strength to experience life a bit differently, with much more delight, more understanding and more passion. When we take the step to take ownership of our lives and responsibility for our own happiness and success, it’s surprising that things just seem to flow much better. The things we were battling with seem to drop their sharp edge and we find ways to work out issues and address our concerns. What happens is that we shift our focus away from the stuff that is getting in our way and turn our focus towards our dreams. What we focus on will grow. So when we focus on taking steps that will head towards our objectives, bit by bit we're getting closer to attaining them. This shift in and of itself is greatly relieving and invigorating to every single aspect of our lives.
Here are three lessons that can be learned from my story.
1. If you are going to dream, dream big. Wonderful things can happen.
2. Top performers have the trust to recommend contacts, connections and ideas, even to their rivals. They know that reaching out to others will only extract good will into their lives.
3. Be real. When we're honest with ourselves, and allow people access to the core of who we actually are, we invite people to be part of our lives, connect with us and create a lifelongbond.
As for me, I’m going to embrace every single day and enjoy every experience, and I am going to concentrate on Oprah!
