Traditional Korean housing, hanok, peeks out from behind tall gray buildings near exit number three of Chungmuro Station subway lines three and four. That’s the Korea House, which used to be a private residence of Park Paeng-nyeon, one of the Joseon Dynasty scholars who helped create Korean alphabet Hangeul. Standing on the 7,150 square meters of land, the spacious Korea House retains the typical style and features of upper class homes of the Joseon era. It was once used as residence for a high-ranking Japanese official during Japanese occupation before being converted into a VIP guesthouse after the establishment of the Republic of Korea. Here are Korea House chief Kim Maeng-nyeon and manager Yun Seo-won to explain more about its history.
