The Korean government is moving forward with a plan for “green growth.” One of the proposals on the agenda is making the DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) more eco- and visitor- friendly.
Although they can only stroll for about one kilometer, visitors wearing camouflage vests can walk along a wire fence while observing the DMZ's ecological system. A PLZ (Peace Life Zone) which connects 10 cities, has an unspoiled natural environment as well as a hope for peace.
In 2008, the number of overseas visitors who visited the DMZ totaled 763,660.
