What is this? You keep the cake in the box for 2 months?

kirstycat 15. October 2009, 09:15

It has to be made at least two months in advance, so that it can be fed with brandy every week and be saturated with it by christmas! It mellows too, like a ginger cake. It tastes a lot nicer after it has rested for a while, than it would if it was eaten as soon as it came out of the oven. It won't go off, it is full of sugar and alcohol!

LorenzoCelsi 15. October 2009, 09:19

I see. I never saw that kind of cake but it could exist also here. Maybe. Since I don't like alcohol I don't know.

i like how you "feed" it...slightly scary

Olgita 15. October 2009, 19:54

wow.... I guess this cake tastes GREAT after 2 months with brandy!

kirstycat 15. October 2009, 20:38

lixxylu: my pet cake

Olgita: It really does! Not all dry like the christmas cakes the shops sell

Your boyfriend is a good guy because you could never leave a cake in my fridge for 2 months and hope I would not eat it.

kirstycat 16. October 2009, 09:40

hehe, but my cake is wrapped in a layer of paper, then a layer of foil, then sealed into a box and hidden out of sight on the top of a cupboard

Good things are worth waiting for! :D

LorenzoCelsi 16. October 2009, 10:01

If he ate your cake you would make another, maybe two.
That is the good thing in having a girl who likes to cook. You just feed her with recipe books and the right ingredients (lots of) and she keeps cooking. And the more you eat, the more she cooks.
You keep also the kitchen clean like an hospital, not like my sister who leaves piles of dirty dishes in the sink to make a boiled egg.
It can't be better.

kirstycat 17. October 2009, 18:39

If that cake was eaten then I would not make another one until next october! It is a once a year only cake

I do like a nice clean kitchen  I can't even put a used teaspoon in the sink without washing it! I can't go to sleep at night or go to work in the morning if there are still dishes waiting to be washed!

LorenzoCelsi 17. October 2009, 19:10

I think the same about the kitchen.

AnitaMargita 18. October 2009, 14:59

This is very interesting, indeed! I have never seen similar way of preparation a cake. Waiting for the period for decorating it...

studio41 23. October 2009, 06:42

takes a lot to make such a cake!

kirstycat 23. October 2009, 07:51

It does indeed

studio41 23. October 2009, 09:02

how do you do all this, Kirsty?! what a wonderful kitchen you have... all kinds of good things coming forth.

kirstycat 23. October 2009, 09:08

 I love to spend a lot of my spare time cooking, I find it very fun and relaxing (most of the time!) It always amazes me that such lovely tasting things can appear after mixing together a simple list of ingredients. I love food :D

I agree with you. It's a bit more haggard for me than years gone by with all the commotion of a lively household so I'm not afforded the time and energy anymore, but one day again, soon, hopefully, I can carve some time for this pleasure! (your clean and thriving kitchen reminds me of certain days and dreams gone by and is an inspiration all its own to me! your diligence at keeping it this way is encouraging, too.)

enjoy
