sweet nothings...

pizza night!

My mum invited me and my bf round for dinner last night, she made these lovely pizzas for us
There was an onion one, a mushroom one, and a margherita  my favourites! :D

I am envious, you know.
BTW, it is "margherita" and it seems that pizza was named after the queen of Italy.

ah, so it is, thanks  I shall fix my spelling mistake!

Here comes one of my boring lessons:
In italian you have the "soft" sound "ge" like in "german" and the "hard" sound "ghe" like in "get".
As usual, it makes no difference where syllables are positioned, they sound always the same.
Same goes for single letters, "e" sounds ALWAYS like in the above examples, where ever it is. For example in italian the "e" in "german" would sound the same also in "age" or "he", while in english you get completely different sounds.

The only difficulty is the "gx" and "ghx" do not exist for all the vowels, for example you don't have "gho", "gha" or "ghu" because they always have the hard sound even if they are written "go", "ga" or "gu" but there is "gi" and "ghi".

Wow! Pizza feast! Yum!

What contain these onion and mushroom ones beside?

kirstycat 6. November 2009, 21:44

they all have a tomato and basil sauce base, with black olives, cheddar cheese, cooked onions, cooked mushrooms...sometimes I like to put anchovies on them too, or mozzarella cheese...I have recently also discovered that sliced courgettes are also very nice on a pizza! I love artichoke hearts too, and peppers, and asparagus...oooh! I want pizza again now!

Yes, anything does except pineapple! Grue!

I agree!

Olgita 9. November 2009, 10:28

Could you write the recipe of the pastry for your pizza?

Olgita 9. November 2009, 10:30

:chef: :chef: :chef:

The easiest way to make pizza is to buy the same "pastry" they use for making bread from your baker and then put stuff over it.

kirstycat 11. November 2009, 10:19

Olgita, I plan on having a go at making my own pizzas soon (using the same recipe that my mum does!) so I will blog the recipe for you when I do

Lorenzo: that's cheating! I did try using a ready made base once, but it's not the same as a proper home made pizza base (it was horrible actually! couldnt finish it!)

LorenzoCelsi 11. November 2009, 11:53

I did not consider that bakers in Britain maybe can't make proper bread

kirstycat 11. November 2009, 16:16

I meant the ones in the supermarket that come wrapped up in a packet...thoe things are like carboard! Yuck! :yuck:

You can buy nice hand made bread in some bakers here, but they tend to be quite expensive! Most people like that horrible tasteless white fluffy stuff.

Here there are boxes with all the ingredients to make pizza starting from flour. But going to the baker is quick because you don't have to wait the thing to rise.

Edit: I've found an Italian Kirsten who is broadcasting her cooking on Youtube and here is the video for making home made pizza:
