I Got a New Boyfriend

, ,

Oki doki! I’m going to introduce my new boyfriend. His name is Shikyu.

His job is... Hmm... He’s a musician. He can play any kind of music and do music editing too. He’s a graphic artist. He always helps me in doing my deviantART-works. He’s a secretary. He helps me in doing my homework, scripts, magazine lay-outing (so bad I’ve been pensioned from this job). He’s a programmer. He does so many scripting from Flash to simple web.

And here is the picture: I and my Shikyu!

Yup! He’s a Compaq Presario CQ40. The best birthday, Christmas, and New Year gift of this year by my family! I really love the Altec Lansing Speakers. It’s an amazing power of playing music, much greater than Toshiba’s.

He's a perfect personal assistant for a high school student like me, at least! 1 GB of RAM (I think I will upgrade it to 2 GB), 250 GB of harddisk (this one is too much for me, though), Intel Core 2 Duo (but actually I really want Intel i7), and... Hmm... I haven't checked another technical data... But they're enough for me for the next 3 years.

By the way, CQ in Japanese can be written as シキュ (shi-kyu). That's why I named him so! Hehe! Did I say he’s a human, huh?

ASUS Rampage Extreme

LGA775 Socket Intel Motherboard

CPU Socket / Chipset: LGA775 / Intel X48 + ICH 9R (Southbridge)
Chipset Energy Saving / Component: - / Processor
FSB / BIOS: 1600/13333/1066/800 MHz / AMI BIOS
DIMM Slot / Maximum RAM: 4x DDR3 2000 (OC)/1800 (OC)/ 1600/13333/1066/800 MHz / 8 GB
Expansion Slot / Port: 2x PCIe X16, 3x PCIe X1, 2x PCI, 8x SATA, 1x e-SATA, 12x USB, Dual Gigabit LAN, 2x IEEE-1394
Integrated Graphics: -
Integrated Audio: SupremeFX X-Fi Audio Card, ADI AD2000B 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC
Integrated LAN: Marvell 88E8056 Dual Gigabit LAN Controller
Additional Feature: ASUS EPU 6 Engine, Fusion Block System, dynamic multi-phase power management, ATI CrossfireX technology

This motherboard is specially designed for overclocking. It also integrates Fusion Block, a watercooling system that is specially used for the northbridge chipset. However, the mosfet and southbridge chipset will also get the cooling by waterblock.

Besides that, ASUS Rampage Extreme provides 2 heatsinks with heatpipe in the package that can be used to substitute the northbridge waterblock if watercooling is apparently unused and to substitute bigger MOS Thermal Kit.

Fusion Block is not the only feature in this product. 16-Phase Power will also support the extreme overclocking.

About the memory, ASUS use DDR3 dual-channel that can run in 2000 MHz for maximum and also supports Intel Extreme Memory Profile (XMP).

This product itself has an overclocking feature named TweakIT that is consist of 3 integrated consoles in the motherboard. They are TOOGLE, CONFIRM, and SELECT joystick, and also LCD Poster. Unfortunately, those features seem to be dedicated to the users who use un-PC-cased motherboard because PC case will complicate the consoles operating.

This BIOS American Magatrends (AMI) motherboard, besides providing dual bios, also has an amazing power management that make the overclock level can reach higher level. In addition, there are two new features in bios, Load Line Calibration and CPU GTLVref.

Unfortunately, there are also some weaknesses in this product. One of them is TweakIT, which becomes the most interesting feature in this motherboard, because most people use PC case. It might be better if ASUS make a better solution by integrating TweakIT externally, remembering this feature is so useful for the overclockers to get on-the-fly overclock.

ASUS EAH4870

AMD PCI Express High-End Video Card

GPU: AMD Radeon HD 4870 (800 SP, 40 TMU, 16 RDP)
RAM Capacity / RAM Type: 512 MB / GDDR5 256-bit
Core Clock / Memory Clock: 750MHz / 1800 MHz

There are no difference in internal architecture between HD 4850 and HD 4870. But HD 4870 runs in higher clock and it use GDDR5. That is why HD 4870 has better performance than HD 4850.

Moreover, GDDR5 has the ability of data allocation that is 2x bigger than the earlier memory generation, GDDR3 and GDDR4. In other words, GDDR5 256-bit has the same bandwith as GDDR3 512-bit in the same clock speed.

By the way, I'm not an ASUS advertiser to write many about ASUS products, okay?

ASUS P5N-T Deluxe

LGA775 Socket Intel Motherboard

CPU Socket / Chipset: LGA775 / nVIDIA nForce 780i SLI
Chipset Energy Saving / Component: - / Processor
FSB / BIOS: 1333/1066/800 MHz / AwardBIOS
DIMM Slot / Maximum RAM: 4x DDR2 1200/1066/800/667 MHz / 8 GB
Expansion Slot / Port: 3x PCIe X16, 2x PCIe X1, 1x PCI, 6x SATA, 1x e-SATA, 10x USB, Gigabit LAN, 2x IEEE-1394
Integrated Graphics: -
Integrated Audio: ADI AD1988B 8-Channel High Definition Audio CODEC
Integrated LAN: Marvell88E1116 PCIe Gigabit LAN featuring Al NET2
Additional Feature: ASUS EPU

This motherboard uses a chipset from nVIDIA, nVIDIA nForce780i SLI which is a single chipset.

3-way SLI of nVIDIA chipset enables us to combine three video card at once. Unfortunately, only video cards with the GPU of nVIDIA GeForce 8800GTX and 8000 Ultra support the 3-way SLI. Besides, 3-way SLI can work for Windows Vista only. So bad...

As always, EPU (Energy Processing Unit) becomes the must-be-on-feature of ASUS motherboards. In this motherboard itself, the energy saving reaches 50% to 80.23% (based on PCMedia hardware benchmarking).

The cooling system is heatpipe. Since the heat from PWM, Mosfet, and south/northbridge can spreads well, the cooling process can be maximized.

ASUS EEE PC 901

Ultra Mobile Portable Computer

Processor: Mobile Intel ATOM N270 1.6 GHz
LCD Display: 8.9” TFT LCD 1024x600 (WXGA)
RAM: 1 GB DDR2-667
Chipset: Intel GMA 950
Communication: Atheros AR8121/AR8114 PCI-E Ethernet Controller, Wireless Network Adapter
Expansion Slot / Port: 3x USB 2.0, Audio in, Earphone, DC in, VGA-out, Ethernet, SD/MS/MMC card reader
Quick Launch Button: Backlight, Resolution, Processor Speed, Skype
Dimension: 226x175x39 (1.1 kg with batteries)

This product got most achievement in hardware group test of UMPC (Ultra Mobile Portable Computer) in the September edition of PCMedia magazine.

EEE PC 901 is the same as EEE PC 900 in specification, included the different SSD (solid-state disk) size for different operating system. For Windows XP, it uses 8 GB and 12 GB for Linux.

The only differences are the processor and features. 900 series use Intel Celeron (Mobile Intel Celeron M ULV 353 900 MHz), while 901 series use Mobile Intel ATOM (Mobile Intel ATOM N270 1.6 GHz). For the features, 901 series have some quick launch button with special functions: backlight, resolution, processor speed, and skype.

Backlight button is used to inactivate the backlighting. It can be reactivated by pressing key or touchpad. Resolution button is used to change the screen resolution in turns between 800x600, 1024x600, 1024x768 (scroll), and 1024x768 (vertical compressed).

The most interesting quick launch is processor speed button or Super Hybrid Engine which can automatically activate some processor speed, just like on-the-fly overclock. Besides overclock, there is also underclock mode for energy saving. Whatever mode choosen, Intel SpeedStep will decrease the clock speed into half when the computer is idle.
