billiontreecampaign

What if instead of giving flowers on Valentine's day, you plant a tree for your beloved one.
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) has launched in January 2007 a major worldwide tree planting campaign. Under the Plant for the Planet: Billion Tree Campaign, people, communities, business and industry, civil society organizations and governments are encouraged to enter tree planting pledges online with the objective of planting at least one billion trees worldwide during 2007. Their website is:
www.unep.org/billiontreecampaign. They also show how to plant trees, and help you choose the right type of tree.

I've planted mine last week, a Plumeria (or Frangipani), native to Central and South America. Its flowers may vary from white and yellow to pinkish red, like the one I've planted:
If you still don't know what to plant, check the
World Agroforestry Centre site .

gmail, smileys
Not so interesting, but if you use gmail you might also use the google talk feature. And to keep the clean look, google didn't add buddies to it, but you can have a few animated smileys. Here's a list of those I've tried. Have some more?

batteries
Batteries... what a pain for environmental consciousness. Even those rechargeable, like lithium or niquel, have a very limited lifespan, up to 2-3 years. But it all depends how you treat them. It might even last shorter than this, depending on how you charge/recharge, and climate conditions. Therefore, I will write a list of suggestions an advice on increasing batteries lifespan here soon. For now I suggest you to have a look at
Battery University.

environmental impact, the green blue, boating
I've stumbled upon this website a while ago, it seems to be quite an interesting source about recreational boating and its interaction with environment. It's called The Green Blue. It's the result of a environmental awareness initiative by the British Marine Federation and the Royal Yachting Association. They even receive applications from M.Sc., Ph.D. and final year students.
