The version is technically "source release 1". Remember that under Piga terms this is not what they would consider a "proper release". However, this is sure too impress and offer loads of help to anyone else wishing to make games in Gambas.
The purpose of this release was to create the "mother of all tech demos". This game contains all the features from the previous GG tech demos, as well as all the features from Free Empires SR 2.
This game has also utilizes the free software community. As well as using original multimedia (created by Piga Software and Malcolm Wilson Multimedia), multimedia files from several other GPL games are also included, such as "Battle for Wesnoth".
Lamp Refugee has an original storyline, which has yet to be fully developed as of this release. The only playable map, named "Slime River" features a basic set of enemies, friendly unit, and buildings (both enemy and friendly).
Unfortunately, as this is a "source release" only the Gambas project has been made public. There are no compiled releases. If you wish to try it out you need to run the Gambas development tools and load the project file. There is a compiled binary included with the source code, to run it copy the path to the file into a terminal and press enter.
If all you are looking for is a game to play then this release isn't for you. But if you are interested in game development, or just curious to see what GG and FE have in store then by all means try this game.
