Dad was downstairs most of the afternoon on Tuesday after the nurse Mona came that morning. This was Mona's last visit for awhile, as she is taking the next 2 weeks off. We will miss her greatly, as Dad had finally gotten comfortable with her. I'm afraid how he will have changed by then. Mona did say this is the first time she has seen him that he has said he was not in pain....his exact quote..." I surprised you didn't I"...because he has always said it was at least a 5 or terrible before.
Dad is having a hard time conversing, but by coming downstairs, he is not wanting to disconnect from us. I told mom to be sure to read the mail to him, the newspaper, any letters, if they get something that he would normally read. He's having trouble reading now. He looks at things briefly then gets frustrated I believe. I tried talking to him without him needing to answer me. When I ask him questions, he takes a long time responding, if he responds at all.
Mom seems overwhelmed with visitors, even though it has mostly been family or people who have asked if they can come. (Craig Hughes) Don't ask me! Dad asked if the minister was coming the other day, so I take that as encouragement that he was ok with him.
I decided to start singing, following Anellise's lead while she was here. Dad took my hand and just smiled, and said he always enjoyed it when I used to sing in the car. Then said something about how much he liked Contra Alto's....my voice type. Never knew that. I talked to him about his high school year book, and the activities he was involved with in school. He smiled when I mentioned the Biology 2 Club, but he didn't tell me what that was all about. But the musical groups also mentioned aparently evoked nice memories.
Dad is very much still with us. I'm enjoying being with him, even as sad as it is to see the changes. It is still very, very special time for me and I will never regret every minute I spend with him.
