Ubuntu has also some derivatives like Kubuntu which uses the KDE desktop environment instead of GNOME and Xubuntu which uses XFCE desktop environment.
The Latest Ubuntu release is Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot. It was released on 13 October 2011.
