it was a sunny day when we reached the island buenavista, stepping into the strips of white sand on a coast along with the beautiful ocean view.
a light wind blows that made trees bow and greet. it was a wonderful feelings.
the area is almost 4 hectares. a two hours walk is enough to explore the whole island. on the east coast, bunches of broken logs and wood found washed ashore filed one behind the others. it was a great job.
working with seven local workers, two chainsaw and one small tractor in a range span of three months., driftwood transformed dramatically into artworks, furnitures and functional pieces for the cottages and for other facilities.
after a long hardworks, beauties from all over the world arrived into the island for asia-pacific beauty pageant pictorials., and on that stranged moment, I felt worthier...

My first job? Mural paintings of fruits that can be found around Davao. After one week working at the old cafeteria, Done. Finished.
Time for me to explore the place, meet people and understanding their cultures. The more I stay, the more I fascinates.
The stories that I've heard in Luzon were barely much different from what I'd experienced here in Mindanao. People are humble and polite.
And I've seen no problem at all.
Lesson no.1 -learn how to speak and understand their language.
2nd job? To build a driftwood plaza at the buenavista island..a small island at the Davao Gulf..

Morning..old Davao airport. I felt I was in a foreign land, most of the people around me spoke different languages, which I did'nt understand.
The smell, the breeze, the land and the people.
Everything's new to me., and I said to myself., "It's a brand new day."
After meeting with Bet-bet at the airport, we travel for a couple of hours to reached Eden, Bayabas, Toril, where Eden Nature Park located.
3,000ft above sea level, cool weather, mossy ground and they have a bigger trees...
Nice place...
Living with Nature..

Okey,¿,. deal.¿?..
then she just left,.like a nightcrawler.. Just like that..
Then., Silence conquered that moment, everybody's speechless.. Lots of questions in our head. WHY? Why? why..
... 'I just said, I'm drunk, I'm sorry, but I have to do this., and please don't tell to my family about this., not yet.".
.so,. Whose gonna take me to the airport?....
It was mixed emotion, Worried about my Sharona,. and my family, but.. It's done, I have to go on., I have to do this no matter what...go go go..
To a place were there's conflict, rebellion, and terrorism.

on that night, I was so drunk, wearing only shoes and pants., staring at the face of an exotic beauty.. rushing to my head, commanding my mouth to speak! "I want to go to your place."
she replies "ok, here is your ticket, tomorrow, I'll be waiting for you at Davao airport by 11am.. ok? and here is your 13 thousand pesos cash advanced.,
DEAL?"

Miss Bet-bet Pichon, a citizen of Davao arrived around 10 in the evening at Exotic Restaurant where most of the young artists of Paete gathered at their art gallery, enjoying the ambience, drinking, smoking, singing, dancing.. lol to the max.
She's looking for an artists willing to go to Davao and make some artworks for eden nature park and for the island buenavista...

I used to stay here in Davao, it's seems like my hometown(Paete), a bigger version., the difference are, Davao never experienced heavy storms for more than 30yrs.
only sun and rain.. cool and warm.
It was 1997., Exotic Restaurant, Longos,Kalayaan,Laguna starts the new beginning of a jorney, to a place were most of the people of Luzon afraid to go., Mindanao.

just the way it's started

I've been wondering what's life is all about?
I feel the strangers inside... some are weak, some are strong.. they talks different languages,. without any discriminations... without any hesitations.. but full of communicative creative way of understanding.. fun, enjoyable, and edible..
hmm.. edible? easy to digest.
I travel from island to island for almost a decade, until I found a place for my work, art.
here in the Philippines, we have 7001 islands,( takes 20yrs to explore the whole regions)70 dialects.(most spoken language are tagalog and bisaya).
most of the islands here are tourist's destination, food are more affordable, you can find store from every corner of the street, where you can buy beer for only half a dollar and cigarette for 1 peso per stick. cool ha!
