Gadjah Mada University Opera Campus Crew 3rd Meeting

, , , ...

Hi All!! Back with me again! The IndLish boy! P:

hohoho, Actually I was not in a good mood on a few days before. My OS X Leopard got corrupted because of something that I still can't figure it out until now. And I have to reinstall it and lost all my data, include my lovely photos that i took lately (that i haven't backup yet) and my Thesis proposal. Sweet isn't it? Haha...but it's Wednesday! Time for Gadjah Mada University Opera Campus Crew (GMU OCC) to meet... And suddenly I got my mood back again!

So...here are the reports

We met to talk about 2 major things. Which were Opera Mini Party (the seminar that I talked about on my older post) and also the progress of Opera Lab Challenge @ Computer Science Department @ Gadjah Mada University. So, lets recap the first topic! The Opera Mini Party will be held next week on Wednesday December 17th 2008. And how was the progress? Before I came to the meeting, me and Aul (Evangelist coordinator) printed the poster. Here it is :

From Opera Stuff

So the publication of the Opera Mini Party (OMP) will be started tomorrow (thursday), we will stick the posters on the busiest spot on our Campus, and also make some fliers. And we talked about the rundown of the "Party". We will split the time into 3 big sessions. First session is about Opera's Overview, it is about Opera's history, Opera's Market Share and also about GMU OCC. Megan will do the talk for this session. And then the second session is about Opera Mini 4.2, this is the main agenda of the event. As I said in my older post, we will talk about all of the cool things of Opera Mini 4.2, plus we will held some demo for that. And we will share about how to run Opera Mini on the desktop via emulator. So, we can browse with "opera mini style" on our desktop. I think it's cool! And in the end of the session we will do some demo for Opera Mini installation, both on the Cellphone, and Desktop (via emulator). The Geeks speaker team will do this session (They are Luthfi, Agung, Budi, Aaron and Mizan). After that we will have some discussion, and close the "Party" with our last session. The third session is about Opera Desktop Browser. It's only 10 minutes, so this is only to trigger our participants to come again on our next Seminar. Because GMU OCC have already planned about a Seminar about Opera Desktop Browser and the Web Standards maybe on early 2009. In this session we will introduce some cool features of Opera Browser 9.6 and also version 10 Alpha!

Oh, and one thing that I almost forgot... We will also prepare some Laptops as a little download centre for the participants who haven't install the Opera Mini 4.2 on their phone yet. We are working to download some of the Opera Mini Installer for some popular Handset brands in Indonesia, so the participant can copy it straight to their phone from our local database. And we will also prepare internet connection if they have to download it from the Internet. They also can copy te emulator (because it is also free and open source), so they can try everything that we discuss on the "Party" by themself. This is a free session after "Party".

We also made a committee for the D-Day. This committee is temporarily made, I mean if we have another event next time, we will always roll the position so everyone can get the experience from it. That's all the report from the OMP. Next we talked about Opera Lab Challenge (OLC).

The OLC proposal have been approved by the Chief of Computer Science Department and also the Dean of our Faculty.
The only problem left is about talking to the Lab Coordinator for the technical things to install Opera on our Lab. Unfortunately, our Lab Coordinator wasn't on her desk lately. She went outside of the city to did some works. So, we have to wait for her to comeback to Jogjakarta. :wait:
We already tried to talked about it via our Chief of Computer Science Department. But, the result was the same. We couldn't met him, because he wasn't on his desk. Everybody seems so busy lately. So we will try to meet them as soon as possible.
So maybe the OLC won't fit the schedule that we already made before (because of some delays). But we will try to do it as soon as possible to fulfill the January deadline. And generally we've already manage the legal aspects and the bureaucracy to do the OLC on our campus (by made our proposal approved). And the rest is about Technical Lobbying.

So that's all folks!
Maybe I won't post the picture of the meeting. But maybe I will if someone ask me to do so.
Wish all the best for GMU OCC!
And the next meeting is on Monday December 15th 2008
After that we will have the GR of OMP on Tuesday December 16th 2008

UGM Opera Campus Crew second meeting - Report

, , , ...

Hello world!

this is my second post, in IndLish still P: hope u enjoy it!

So this morning (Monday, December 1st 2008), Opera Campus Crew @ UGM had a meeting. Which unfortunately... I came a little bit late to this meeting. The tire of my motorcycle got stabbed by a nail on the road. Just afew hundred meters from the campus...So I have to fix it @ a workshop called "Tambal Ban" -hahaha...anyone know the english word for this place??- I left my bike there and take a walk to the campus in order to came to the meeting.

So...the meeting was fun!!!As usual! Held @ OMAH TI headquarter. And one of the nice thing we have here, Mizan - the leader of OMAH TI is also the member of Opera Campus Crew. So we can use the place as our headquarter too! Nice start wasn't it? This meeting was the continuation of the former meeting. Some plans were changed. Especially the Opera MIni Challenge scenario. The former scenario was a little challenge among us -Opera Campus Crew- to get people -as much as possible- to join us using Opera Mini 4.2, and get them to write feedback about it. By an individual approach to each person that we'll meet, we will try to introduce them about opera mini 4.2 and ask them to install and use it on their phone. After that we will ask them to answer some questions for a feedback. One of us that can get the most "victim" will get a reward.

But later after we thought about it, maybe it will take a long time and energy. So, we changed the plan. We will organize a small seminar to introduce opera mini 4.2. It's on the middle of this month. The "Geeks" will collect all of the information and test all of the features of Opera Mini 4.2 in this week. The "Event Handler" will prepare the proposal and all of the "behind the scene stuff" such as the seminar room, the perfect date for it and some merchandise for the participants (we have some opera bags left from the Opera Seminar last week, it will be a good doorprize ^_^ ). And the "Evangelist" will do the publication, set some strategies to get a lot of participants and to make the seminar interesting. On the seminar we will talk about all the cool stuff about Opera Mini 4.2, and hold a download day! We will also ask for feedback from the participants.

Second is about the Opera Lab Challenge...."Event Handler" team is working on the proposal. Hopefully next week we can hand it to the "Evangelist" and they can make some lobby with the Chief of Computer Science Department @ UGM to install opera on our labs...I hope that we still be able to catch the January deadline. And I believe, we can do it if we have good cooperation and time management.

I will upload the picture as soon as i get it from Booedy :D -I already have it right now-
the atmosphere is the same like the last meeting, we just wear different clothes. hahaha

And in the end of the meeting, Firsty -our Treasurer- collected some donation from us to make sure that we can run this stuff. It was not much, just a thousand rupiahs (1/13 USD P:) each person every week. It will be use to make some flyers for our program (seminars, demo days, etc...) and also to make proposals.

So...wait for the show!!
Come on guys!We can do it!!

PS : I forgot to wrote something here

Gadjah Mada University Opera Campus Crew 1st Meeting

, , , ...

Hummmm....my fisrt post @ this Blog

Right know I'm going to talk about Opera campus crew @ my University. It is rather shocking when I know the fact that the member of Opera Campus crew in my University are 26 peoples (until i write this post). And Zara, the Education Manager from Opera told us that we are the biggest group Of Opera Campus crew ever. WOW!!!

And after the seminar that held @ my campus a week ago (22 nov 08) we became more curious and eager to do something as the Opera Campus Crew. So....what can be better than a FIRST MEETING!! HORRAY!!!

After we talk a lot of things by emailing each other, we made an appointment to make some meeting. Held on the "headquarter" of OMAH TI -one of the division of Our Computer Science Student Organization / HIMAKOM-, there are approximately 15 crews (of 26) that came to the meeting. And we talk about 3 Major things.

First is our Organizational structure. We decide to choose a "Chief" and later the "Chief" will be helped by a "Treasurer" and a "Secretary". And we make 3 division to get our job description to become clearer. They are "Evangelist" who concentrate about how to make a better concept to spread Opera @ the Campus and our Town. "Geeks" who concentrate about learning all the benefits and technical specs of Opera products, they are like an Opera genius that will trying all Opera features, try to do some tweaks and share it later to us and all of Opera users. And the last but not least is "Event Handler" that concentrate to make Opera meet up and other event to do some publications.

All of the name above like, "Chief", "Treasurer", "Secretary", "Evangelist", "Geeks" and "Event Handler" are made by ourself. We hope that Opera head office have no problem with those name :D

These are some pictures of the meeting, haha...the room is such a mess!!

Discussing
From New Album 28/11/08 20:37

The Second thing that we discuss is about Opera Mini Challenge. Knowing that Opera have launched their New Opera Mini 4.2. We want to spread this new mobile browser technology to our society. The project is... We will make a blank Form that will be spread among peoples in our society and make a little survey & collecting feedback about the new technology of Opera Mini 4.2 from peoples. And also we will introduce to them, that not yet use the Opera Mini 4.2 with some "competition" way. So we will individually ask peoples to try and joining use to use Opera Mini 4.2, Opera Campus Crew that can ask the Higest number of people to join to use Opera Mini 4.2 will get "THE GADJAH MADA OPERA CAMPUS CREW OF THE MONTH AWARD". the challenge will start @ Monday 1st Dec 2008. While now, until the D-Day, our "Geeks" is testing all of the new features of Opera Mini 4.2, and preparing some notes of it so that we can use it to help our campaign to spread Opera Mini 4.2.

The Third topic is about Opera Lab Challenge. Knowing that our Student Internet Centre have already used Opera for their browser is a good news for us. And for the future project, we will make a proposal to our Chief of Computer Science Program, to install Opera on our labs. We have 4 Basic Labs and another 4 Spesification Labs. We aim to get all of them powered by Opera Desktop 9.6. And this program will strarted next week, begin with the proposal designing by the "Event Handler" colaborating with the "Evangelist".

And we also talk about things like making a spesific Logo for our Society, making uniforms that lately will be a grey polo-shirt that have Opera Logo on it. And make individual publication to spread the New Opera Mini 4.2 and Opera Browser 9.6, like on our messenger status, our forums signature, our personal blog, etc.

I hope that Opera Campus Crew @ Gadjah Mada University can show their Quality, not only the Quantity.

Keep your spirit up Guys!!!
We'll make this happen!!

PS: Congrats to Megan as the "Chief" of Opera Campus Crew @ Gadjah Mada University
