I actually knew someone who was dismissed from a famous photography graduate program for doing things like this. .... She was fond of photographing stage curtains with disposable cameras, if I recall. .... they just did not understand.
Lord knows what Robin was doing. She sort of offered me her "boyfriend" position, but as a backup boyfriend while she dealt with her previous boyfriend. ... It would have meant, by trading Boston for Madison, Wisconsin, although certainly you could stay entertained in Madison. But I didnt feel like hanging out two, three months -- in my mind -- waiting for her to either get together with her former boyfriend or decide I was the better pick. .... I guess I should file that under, great photographer I have known.
It is strange how just a little event or two can change the entire direction of your life, or anyone's life for that matter. A chance encounter. A lusty moment. A misunderstanding. A stupid move. A smart move. A confused silence. All of those things, just spinning off different worlds.
Just the photograph, the unique style of it. I had not thought about Robin for years. But the photograph did trigger a lot of association, didn't it. ... And then next association, the wife of a co-worker, which is really strange. Maybe because I would have liked to seen her in those? .... Third association: Hermes. Very classy shoes.
That is a wonderful comment.... I am sorry I missed it at the time. It is so very "Zen", so very artful. Reminds me of Picasso saying, If I knew what I was looking, I would not never find it.
I know it is you: "I think that all things which we make without any aim are great!" is a wonderful way to describing what artists -- at least me -- try to do: get unfocused, find some fluid state where our prejudices are at least neutralized by our creative side.....finding some dream state where our left brains , the creative side of our brains, can show us something. I think you have said quite a bit in a few words, and have described in a few words what a lot of creative people try to do: shake the tree and see what fall out. .. A major triumph: finding what you did not know existed in you.
