Thames - A Personal Notebook

bits'n pieces that might be of use

Hibernation:

, ,

The clocks have rolled back to Greenwich Mean Time. The nights have drawn in. The temperatures have dropped (are going to stay down for a while) and the fall has started in earnest. I have missed my deadline for I really wanted to launch this year and was once again defeated by our British weather.
September was a disaster and forced a sudden stop, simply because paints and varnishes do not lie well on cold and damp surfaces. October has not been much better and so I have resigned myself to completing a few niggling bits of carpentry and some electrics.
There is some small consolation in that the boating season is largely over and that there will only be the odd day between now and March when it would be pleasant to be afloat. Couple that with the fact that the Environment Agency press on with their winter maintenance programme over this period which, naturally enough, restricts movement on the river. So, with some regret, "Najuha" is going into hibernation until our climate wakes us both up again........

It is not the end of the world for me however, for, as one door shuts, another opens. This is the time to consider the areas that are worth exploring for, as the fall develops new vistas open up and help to
complete the picture of an area. So, let's get to it. We can make a start with two or three circular walks (from base back to base as opposed to point-to-point)and see if the results are satisfactory. It may be necessary to try several different methods to come up with a satisfactory solution.........?

Sorry you couldn't launch this year. All the more to look forward to in the spring when things start warming up a bit. Was happy to see the photos of your walk.

Thanks Pam,
It is not as bad as it sounds. If, as a professional builder you have a large heated workshop then that is just fine but, if you are building outside then you have to put up with the weather that is thrown at you.
Patience is the thing and I am not in any hurry....
