TRUST (1)
One word that bring memories, a word with so many different meaning to so many different people. To some it's the cause of betrayal, to others it's the reason of that disappointment, we all have one or more story to tell.
Should we stop trusting? Nope I don't think so. Why?
Trust is the bedrock of every relationships, we humans are social animals; we are relational beings; none of us is an island. What it means is that relationships are important for our survival. I still don't get it? Since trust is needed for relationships to be established or to continue and relationships are important for our survival or progress, then trust is mandatory.
"This can't be correct" someone will say. Okay. Then the confusion here is that trusting is not a guarantee that we won't be betrayed, cheated, disappointed... So what do we do since we all want to avoid being cheated and disappointments?
We established earlier that we are not independent, what is also true is that we are also not created to be dependent, interesting? Then what?
We are created to be interdependent and everytime we fall short of this we get disappointed. How can this be true? When our hope is placed on a person or thing to the extent that his/her failure will set a blow to our life, we are definitely being dependent then we are at their mercy. This is wrong. Interdependence means the relationship we have both entered is mutually beneficial to both of us. If the relationship is not important to the other person it's supposed not to be important to me too. Life harbors no vacuum, Life is always correspondence.
