"Teashop questions" for week 3 --Sample writing for students at class 7 18 20 etc ....

,

Today I had a wonderful sharing with my friend B , we talked about the questions Leo gave us last week ,and we had agreed on some of questions but we also had some disagreement during the talking .

Today I had a wonderful time sharing with my friend, B, as we talked about the questions Leo gave us last week. We agreed on the answers to some of the questions, but we disagreed on others.

About the first question ,I would not keep silent and do nothing if I saw someone stealing something on the bus ,but I think I would consider the circumstances when I were there , Coz it is also very important to consider other people’s safety when I make my own decision ,but my partner thought that she would keep silent and try not to interfere in it ,coz she said she was only a student so that she needed to protect herself first ,then maybe she could call the police to do something afterwards .

Regarding the first question, I would not keep silent and do nothing if I saw someone stealing something on the bus. However, I think I would consider the circumstances because it is very important to consider other people’s safety. But, my partner thought that she would keep silent and not interfere since she needed to protect herself since she is only a student. Afterwards, she would call the police.

Next we moved to the second question ,I chose Love ,the reason is that money can not buy love ,even if I had a lot of money ,but I would still feel terrible if I could not get married to the one who I fell in love with ; therefore ,I am a little bit romantic guy ,but I think I am doing the right thing . In the same way ,my partner B thought it is also very important to choose love instead of money when you have to make a choice ,and she also added that she is not such a romantic person like me ,coz she also thought money is also very important ,and I couldn’t agree with her any more on that .she was right on that .

In regards to the second question, I chose “Love” because money cannot buy love. Even if I had a lot of money, I would feel terrible if I could not get married to the one with whom I fell in love. Therefore, I am a little bit of a romantic, but I think that I am doing the right thing. My partner, B, agreed that, when making this decision, it is very important to choose love over money. But, she also added that she is not much of a romantic like me because she thinks that money is very important. I couldn’t agree with her on that.

Last, we talked about how long we would want to live ? I think I would like to live for about 80 years , I don’t know why , but I think 80 is a good number ,amusingly ,my partner B she chose to live as long as she could ,she was saying that life is so beautiful ,and she cannot be sure if there is God after she died , so she has to try to keep herself safe everyday(every day ) ,and enjoy life as much possible as she could. I think she was being very wise on her choice bu t I think there is God after people die .

Lastly, we talked about how long we would want to live. I think that I want to live for about 80 years. I am not sure why, but I think that 80 is a good number. Amusingly, my partner chose to live as long as she could since life is so beautiful. She stated that she couldn’t be sure that there is a God or an afterlife, so she wants to keep herself safe everyday and enjoy life as much as possible. I think she is very wise, but I believe that there is a God and an afterlife.

We got to know each other better through this talking, and we also began to understand more about life in different perspectives (aspects) , so I think I will talk more next time .

We got to know each other better through this discussion, and we began to understand more about life from other perspectives. I think I will talk more next time.

Tell it , students will forget ;
Teach it ,students will understand ;
Involve it , students will learn

2)---Case study of 3 Chinese English teachers

導入(下午2:55):老師給學生打招呼 ,How are you doing ? Yes ?

Homework

(4)Information Gap

How can we use less land to support more population?

Oldway 1 3 5 7
New way 2 4 6 8

A reading 後再comprehension
B comprehension後再Reading

When doe the learning take place ?

(1) A case study of a young Chinese English teacher

, ,

目標:let’s Do a Interview in English (用英語作個采訪)

Reach a wide audience ,work ,act the part of , a bitter sweet song .(語言點教學)

Task-Based Instruction.: In task-based instruction, students participate in communicative tasks in English. Tasks are defined as activities that can stand alone as fundamental units and that require comprehending, producing, manipulating, or interacting in authentic language while attention is principally paid to meaning rather than form (Nunan, 1989).

but the nature of the task varies from one level to the other. Tasks become increasingly complex at higher proficiency levels. For instance, beginners might be asked to introduce each other and share one item of information about each other. More advanced students might do more intricate and demanding t asks, such as taking a public opinion poll at school, the university, or a shopping mall.。

If you are interested to know more about what Task ,you can go here to read )

Talk with a person who you want to interview most if you are a reporter .(采訪一個你最想要采訪的人)

Aided--Personality Teaching ( APT )

What is the big deal about Podcasting like "Chinesepod "

, ,

Chinesepod is popular now ! if you don't know Chinesepod ,you are out ! well I am not crazy about Chinesepod .

As far as teaching ideas are concerned there is nothing new . Podcast is just an updated version of studioclassroom teaching , podcasting, version of amateur radio, and of course home video has been around for at least 30 years. However, Podcat ieself doesnot make any change to teaching Chinese or TCSOL ,

But the point is P:odcast has been the vast increase in usability of such technologyy and an equally impresive decrease in cost. The result being that ideas that were developed only for the most privileged parts of the developed world’s educational systems can be used in a much broader context as the cost and ease of access to these tools has changed.

But Techonogly should not become the dread of teachers , I have been observed some of teachers here teaching classes by using Powerpoint ,or other techie things ,actually I could only feel that they were tryingt to do all kinds of things ,but the worst thing is they forgot ,as a teacher you are to pay more attention on learning of your students coz Learning usually take place when you really teach students ,but not when you are trying to figure out how to use Podcast ,it is not the technogly itself which will make a differecne but it is all about teaching .

For teaching Chinese ,it is advisble to use Blog or Podcast to help you ,but I would rather choose the traditional way , actually I want to teach at a Multimedia classroom ,but I at last find out that what I need is what I just need ,which means that as a teacher we should try to use what we have or what we need ,don't try to find out what Geeky thing out there ,I am against that EFL or TCSOL teacher who are trying to use Blog or Podcast but not in a down-to-earth way .

I remember that when I was at college ,I had a teacher called Joe ,he was only having his own Laptop ,and no internet access in classroom ,the only thing he could use is Chalk and board ,but he was doing such a good job ,the only techie things he was trying to use is Movies and he use Projector in our reading classes in order to play a movie forus ,Technology for him was like a Toy ,we should play with Toy ,but not becoming a slave of that .

anway I will try to post later about how my teacher teach us reading in a big typical Chinese classroom it will be like A case study .

My student's Teashop Questions and Update for week 3

,

Their names are Shao** and Bao**(From Class 7)

Teashop questions(week1) :

I had a nice talk with Shao ,we talked that three questions when we talked about the No.1 Question ,we all think Matholde would sold it and Brought a Beautiful and large houses ,,Then she would buy a lot of new clothes And the most impostant ,She would buy a beautiful gun to her husband Beacuse it was his wish .

When we talk about the No2 question ,we had different idea ,She thought we wouldnot buy the fake ,even though it has some famous People ,Beacuse we brought it ,that means :we wanted to use it ,she said she would buy something real ,in my opinion,we can buy soemthing in common ,Even thuogh it was cheap but it is useful .

At last we talked the No3 Question ,we had the same idea ,we would buy a lot of clothes and food ,the most important we can buy the new computer ,new car,and new house, Then we can have the travel with our family by car ,we believeed that 1 Million is very useful ,we can take out a part of money to help somebody who is in trouble .

My comments ; I will give the comments on grammar later but here I would like to say you guys are doing wonderful wonderful job ! I am not saying this in Chinese way ,but I really got impressed by your honesty ,you two did go out to have a talk with each other ,you know what when I did this with oldder students like my age ,they cheated me they didnot go out ,but they made up a story to make me happy ,Thank you for your patience being with Leo .keep up good work!!

And Tommrrow is the "Due day" for our Week 2 Teashop questions :and here is the week 3 TQ(Teashop Questions) coming up on the table :

1 If you are on a bus ,and you saw someone stealing the wallet or purse from the people nearby you ,what would you do ?
2 What do you think of the best way to study English ?
3 Talk about one of the movies you have watched last time ?

and I would like to point out some of things I found from your lastweek 's homework :

1 I want a Paragraph instead of AB AB AB dialogue ,I know it look neat in that way ,but I want you try to write at least one paragraph or several ones like the above one's
2 I don't know why you write English letters in that way ,I mean Intalised ,but I donot think that is the correct way or good way to do it ,so pls Change that habit too .
3 pls sign your name and your partner's name ,if you don't have an English name and if you want one , I could give you one for free

Enjoy you Teashop Time !!

A cool site I found today .

“Teashop questions” updates for Week 2

Tomorrow is Thursday ,my student's Teashop question will be due ,I have to thank Catherine for her idea on this innovative task when I was at College ,I edit this to suit younger student's need :

1 What is Teashop question?
It is activity for practice TEFL student's oral English and writing and rapport too ,but it is not a activity you do it at class ,but you use this to create a English environment for your students since I heard a lot of complaints saying" In China we don't have "English environment" or" English is just a foreign language here " ,if your case is like this .Do Teas hop questions with your students this week !

2 How to do it ?
(1) Ask your students to find a partner first :A and B

(2) you write teashop questions on the board or you can print it out for your students

(3) ask your students to exchange telephone Numbers of each other and keep in touch and schedule a time for get together ,like on sunday afternoons , then talking the questions in English !!

(4) each of students in one set will have to write a short summary of what they have been talking in their discussion with their Teashop partners ,and give it back to you on due date .

3 Some Options :
(1) If you and your students are covering a textbook( Like SEFC) ,It is better for you to relate some of topics or stories in your "teashop questions ",for example : Unit 15 in SEFC named <Necklace> which is a famous short play ,so I asked my students to talk about this : if kJ gave the necklace back to M ,What M would do ? it is fun and fresh for my students .

(2) if you are too critical about students' grammar ,you can check the grammar anyway ,but I would not suggest you do that ,coz it will possibly discourage your students's interests on this activity ,remember Teashop questions is Fun and relaxed (Do you usually talk Three Representatives things in a Teashop?) ,it is not a drill for students but also a great chance for your students to use English and get to know their classmates better .so take it easy .

(3) if you still want to preach on grammar ,ok , you can do it on class ,you could point out some frequently-made mistakes by your students ,and elicit the correct version of English instead of being pushing your students to feel bad about their writing ,be sure to say you understand what they are writing but if they could pay a little more attention on the spelling or grammar .you would really appreciate it ,and thank your students

(4) Ask your colleagues from other classes to do a collaboration teaching with you on this ,or you can suggest your students to find partners from other classes ,instead of their own classes

(5) Tell your students there is no NEED to cheat on this ,coz it is just for fun ! no one will give you a grade or something .

Teashop questions for last week ( week 1) :
1 if J gave the necklace back to M ,what would M do ?
2 if you have 1 million RMB what would you do ?
3 Yesterday was 3-15 ( China's Consumer's holiday) would you buy a famous brand like Nike or Lining ,which is same brand but fake ? why or why not ?

Teashop questions for this week ( Week 2) :

1 Pros and cons of being a only child in your family (use what you have learned in your book) .
2 If you can live 100 years ,are you happy about that ? and why ?
3 your mother and your future Bf or gf both of them fell into the river at the same time ,who will you save first ? why?

Beat the winner ( English game for China students)

, ,

Again, it is not even an OK drawing , I will have to ask my cousin to teach me some skills maybe this week ,but it is better for me have something to help me explain this game here.

Name: Beat the winner (Quan2 da3 ying2 jia1)
Level: All levels
Aims: Oral English, Grammar consilidation on what Ss have just learned .
you can choose any grammar structure to practice by using this game especially before the exam . Class Time: varies
preparation Time : 10 mins
Resources :lists of common modal verbs used in classroom or textbook SEFC(Senior English for China )Grade 1(B) Page 152--154 .

Procedure :
1 write the above pics in the board ,if needed ,go over the modal verbs(I didnot do this coz my students have just learned this ),explain the rule of game to them
2 Rules : everyone in the same group are trying their best to beat the winners of other group ,
Take one student A1 for example ,he play the" Jiandao shitou bu" with any Ss from Group B , if anyone lose ,he or she has to make one sentence by using the modal verbs ,then the judge is to judge if the sentences are good or not ,if ok ,the second Ss from Group B will challenge teh same player from A untill he or she BEAT THE WINNER !
The last one who sucessfully beat everyone in other group will be the Winner to help the whole group win ! and the first round of game finish ,if time permits ,the students can also play the same game again ,in order to ensure the fairness of this game ,the boy or gal who beat the whole team ,he or she will be able to have a short rest by being the JUDGE for next game ,the game will go on like this ......
Note: you can play China 's traditional Game called " Jiandao shitou bu " or you can play "Gangzi(Stick ) gangzi(Stick) laohu(Tiger) or Ji(Chicken) or chong(Worm) " in that game Stick will beat the tiger ,tiger will eat the chicken ,Chicken will eat the worms ,but the worms will rot the Stick) (老虎 杠子)almost everyone in China know how to play this game and it is so much fun to play this in English rather than in Chinese .

Caveats and Options

(1) Break Ss in group of 5 ,7,9 the best number depends on the size of your class
(2) After I used this game in my class ,I realised that ,you Canot use this game if your class size are too big like over 70 Ss unless you have a very big classroom ,and a lot of space for Ss to move around .
(3)Ask the Ss to be creative ,don't make the same sentences ,you might do this to motivate Ss by telling them ,the correct sentence will worth 1 points ,but the imaginative ones will worth 2 Points ,but After I know about DWS I have to reconsider this in my classes
(4)explain the rule in Chinese to save the time, although this is a English class ,but it is not suggested to explain this games' rule to your Ss in English coz it is too complicated and could make some confusions ,and will waste a lot of valuble time
(5)Some of Ss speak Chinese when they play this game ,but don't be too serious on this if they are using Modal verbs ,that is the points of this Game !
Have fun with this game in your class!

ps: I made this game , you are welcome to try this game in your classes for free ,and I would appreicate that if you tell me how it is going in your local classes by leaving a comments here .

however it is NOT ok to use this game in any commercial use
