The Consulate General has learned that Chinese police advised hotels that Islamic extremist elements could be planning to attack four and five star hotels in China sometime over the course of the next week. Chinese authorities have assured the U.S. Embassy in Beijing that they are taking appropriate security measures and investigating the possible threat thoroughly. American citizens visiting Chinese four and five star hotels should review their plans carefully, remain vigilant with regard to their personal security, and exercise caution. Reports should be made to local police if one notices unusual activities in or around these areas.

U.S. citizens planning to travel to China should consult the Department of State's country-specific Public

Yahoo China's new move

, ,

As we known, Yahoo China had been merged with China's biggest b2b,b2c company Alibaba.com in this year.Historically , Yahoo has done quit well in Japan, but in China market, it has been in struggling for many years, almost for every area of service, Yahoo failed to get the eyeball from the public.

Intestingly, this time, Yahoo released its its new version toolbar for browers in China market.By adding this in your browser, people will be able to block unexpected ads, spywares, recovering IE default settings, and so on.

Yahoo China ,inherited this application from their former president HongYi Zhou's startup, 3721.com.The original thinging to provider this software was to redeem the respect and reputation ruined by notrious 3721 spyware-like plugin.Actually, it was very successful approach to make people think 3721 could also give out some good things , helping people tracle malicious software attacks.

desipte all the beloved functions, this time, new version providers a addtional online photo album service, which allows user upload pictures via client software to their online album without space restriction.

After I saw this news on Xinhua news website, I find it has vital drawbacks .that is people could not view the pictures if they are not Yahoo user. Also ,I am doubting ,as Yahoo has already accquired Flickr.com, why this people still developing their own picture sharing service.

The easist way I believe to entry China's online picture sharing service should be introduce flickr.com to China, with user friendly China version interface. There are no photo service could exceed flickr.com's superb offering.

I just don't know what they are thinking ,it's fucking stupid not promote flickr but developing their own urly photo website.

Sina invents a new way to promote blogging service

, ,

Sina,a well known Chinese internet company ,has created their new way to promote blogging service in mainland China.

Earlier this year, Sina had launched their blog service for Chinese internet users. Recentlly , it upgraded this service from version 1.0 to 2.0, they added varies new functions and beautifized the user interface at the same time.

What is huge about it? Their new blogging service invited some celebrities both on the internet and offline, ranging from the newest Supergirl competition winner -LiangYin Zhang ,famous actress JingLei Xu ,Chinese Dalond Trump ShiYi Pan,pretty newscaster Xiaoli Wu and etc etc..

From marketing point of view, this is a very smart approach to spread the message and encourage people to try.Heavy traffic also been generated by the attractiveness of celebrities.Just take a sample example, nearly every post written by Yinliang Zhang will be hited more then 8,000 times.Celebrities blogging warm up the future activities as well as get closer to their fans ,say, if to use a marketing slang, customer retention. It's win-win game.

Sina ,the most visited news website in China, is developing a new way to boost the popularity of blogging and other web 2.0 services.

Google sponsored Wiki in China ?

, , , ...

I am wondering if I can finally make it.Yesterday , I wrote email to Kaifu lee, the head of Google China.Today , I wrote email to Jimmy ,the founder of WiKimieda Org.

I hope all the Chinese netizen will soon have a free accessing ,trouble free Wiki mirror site in China (It will be two way updated but with some restrictions)

The lettle I wrote to Jimmy..
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello Jimmy and other board members:

I am a Chinese blogger and a big fan of Wiki's global Wikipedia project. Wikipedia has been growing so fast during last several years.I noticed that in last three years Wiki's page views had been soared about 3 times .More and more people start relaying on Wikipedia website to get latest , updated knowledge and information.

However, the Chinese version Wikipedia ,especially simplified Chinese version (mainly China Mainland visitors) is underdeveloped for some reason. By far , it only has 44,002 items available for checking. Obviously , China has special political situation and in this sense, some necessary censorship mechanisms are unavoidable at the moment.Main while , China also has huge potential for developing wiki Chinese content. Globally , there are more than 1.5 billion people speak Chinese as the first langague ,plus , there are more than 30 million Chinese learners all over the world.Apart from this , China also has longer then 5000 years civilization and history. This all advantages can be the driving force for wiki Chinese site.

Under this circumstance, in order to develop the content on Wiki Chinese site, I want to propose a project with the sponsorship of Google China , to speed the content construction on wiki Chinese site. Based on this thoughts , I've exchanged some ideas with Dr. Kaifu Lee, the president of Google China. He said in our conversation that he will be considering the possibility of cooperation with Wikimedia Foundation and he's asking for my advice on what google can do to promote wiki site in Chinese world.

Briefly,my idea was:

1.With the help of Google China, to establish a branch of Wiki organization.

2.Mirror all the Wiki Chinese as well as other language content in China (Omit some of the political sensitive items)
The reason for building the mirror site is because most of the Chinese college student could not access oversea websites, suffering oversea sites will be resulting unaffordable expenses.

3.Sacrifice small fragment of political sensitive to exchange the FREEDOM OF KNOWLEDGE (to some extend, Which is considered more important then rights of free speach)

Other details are all negotiable , I hope to see the day Chinese culture and history can be universally accessible by outside the world. I hope Google and your org can ultimately reach the agreement.

Looking forward your reply..and comments on this topic.I'd like to serve as a intermedia of this process.

sincerely ..

Leo

China blocks Wikipedia

, ,

In recent several days, people started complaining that they could not access wikipedia again. It is not the first time China authority limited the access to wikipedia.

Westerns might have no idea about why China blocked Wikipedia again. There are no certain reason for China blocking wikipedia.People are guessing it may have something to do with recent death of famous litterateur -Jin Ba ,who dead on 17 Oct this week. The government may be afraid of causing uncontrollable discussion about this one of the greatest litterateur in China's 20 century.

Before he dead , there are debate spread over internet about his appeal of free pain death. This year is his 103th year living in this world. Before long time ago , he had been suffering from varies elder diseases. However, because that he is such a important person in China's society. The officials didn't want to make this vital decision for his living , and nobody wants to take responsibility for the consensus pressure. If any level of authority admitted his request of free pain death, they would be facing thousands of blames on their irresponsible of important people's life.

His last wish was to establish a culture revolution museum.

I believe wikipedia will be soon opened.Only time matters for this blocking.

Li Yuchun Loved for Being Herself

Chinese showbiz rarely produces icons. Sure, there are the dozen or so movie actors who can carry a film, and the odd rocker who fills a stadium. But seldom does a face on China's small screen really stand out. Even singing, the national pastime and TV staple, seems reserved for an interchangeable lineup of warbling coquettes, husky crooners and jolly fellows in brass stars and epaulets belting out odes to red flags.

Which helps explain how a 21-year-old Sichuanese music student named Li Yuchun has become one of the most popular figures in China. In August, Li won a televised American Idol-like singing contest produced by Hunan province's Entertainment Channel and bearing its own inimitable name: "Mongolian Cow Sour Yogurt Super Girl's Voice." (Its sponsor makes yogurt.) The show drew the largest audiences in the history of Chinese television. As the competition narrowed, the media covered it like a war or the O.J. Simpson trial. By the time the finale aired, some 400 million people were tuning in.

The Li Yuchun phenomenon, however, goes far beyond her voice, which even the most ardent fans admit is pretty weak: her vocal range drifts between Cher territory and that place your little brother's voice went the summer before seventh grade. As a dancer, she's not much better. Hei Nan, one of the event's judges, told the Guangzhou Daily that Li was "the worst of the top six in terms of singing skills," but noted that she garnered the most audience votes.

What Li did possess was attitude, originality and a proud androgyny that defied Chinese norms. During the tryouts—in which 150,000 contestants were winnowed to 15—Li wore loose jeans and a black button-down shirt, with no make-up and the haircut (and body) of David Bowie during his Space Oddity phase. She auditioned with In My Heart There's Only You, Never Her, an oldie made famous by Taiwan's Liu Wenzheng—a man. In the main competition she sang other songs written for male performers and called herself "a tomboy." For an audience reared on the bubble-gum, lip-gloss standards of Chinese girl pop, Li's disregard for the rule book produced an unfamiliar knee-weakening. Her fans wept openly and frantically shrieked when Li took the stage. The show ruffled feathers among Beijing's commissars. By the final episode, Li and her two remaining rivals had switched their repertoire to patriotic folk songs.

Li's victory was unusual in other ways: like American Idol, but unlike China itself, "Super Girl's Voice" is run democratically. Eight million SMS votes flooded in on the night of the finale. For a few weeks after, the mainland press debated the relevance of this format. "Only something that smashes social norms could elicit such a response," Yu Guoming, a media expert at People's University, told the Beijing News. "After all, in China the opportunities to use votes to choose are relatively few." An editorial in the China Daily wondered: "How come an imitation of a democratic system ends up selecting the singer who has the least ability to carry a tune?" As Li prepares for a nationwide tour with the other finalists, her handlers are loath to discuss the political dimensions of the program or of Li's triumph. Hunan Entertainment Channel refused TIME's requests to interview or photograph Li. According to one of her many agents, they were worried the story would portray Li as more than just an entertainer. But she is more: Li represents unabashed individuality, and that's why she's a national icon.
