Just 2.5 hours outside of CapeTown, South Africa is Inverdoorn Game Reserve and Iziba Safari Lodge; A Big 5 and cheetah game lodge, safari travel destination and conservation leader in the region.
Situated on a large stretch of Karoo scrubland, Inverdoorn offers safari adventures with a mind to highlighting conservation issues surrounding Big 5 and cheetah protection. Inverdoorn encourages guests to join the movement to save Africa’s natural heritage
Conservation Champions
Inverdoorn Game Reserve and Iziba Safari lodge is the largest safari destination in the region and the only safari destination dedicated to conservation. For the past ten years Inverdoorn has been offering safari adventures with conservation as a key driver when it started the Western Cape Cheetah Conservation in 2001 to inform safari enthusiasts of the plight of the cheetah - the most endangered cat in Africa. More recently a new conservation movement, Rhino Protect was formed to create awareness about the issues surrounding rhino protection and conservation solutions.
Cheetah conservation and rhino protection are the main conservation initiatives that this safari destination offers - a safari adventure with a conscience. The greed and ignorance of the trade in rhino horn led Inverdoorn to poison the horns of their three rhino. The Rhino Protect movement serves as a portal and discussion forum for all information regarding the conservation of rhino in South Africa.
Cheetah Lead the Way
The Western Cape Cheetah Conservation is dedicated to the promulgation and conservation of the cheetah. From humble beginnings, the conservation movement now protects thirteen cheetahs, the newest member a cheetah cub named Izzie. Their conservation programme will include breeding of cheetah.
All thirteen cheetahs were rescued from appalling conditions and nurtured back to health at Inverdoorn. Conservation of and breeding with cheetahs in captivity is an arduous task but Inverdoorn’s cheetah conservation initiative is maturing and cheetahs will soon be released into the main reserve to learn how to fend for themselves. Driven by a passion for cheetah and the conservation of South Africa’s natural heritage, Inverdoorn has steadily been working towards this day.
Rhino Protection
Rhino Protect is a movement that will encourage people to join Rhino Protect in the fight against rhino poaching and ignorance. In the past year hundreds of rhino have senselessly been killed. Rhino Protect, born out of Inverdoorn’s decision to poison the horns of their rhino wants to find innovative and sustainable solutions to improve rhino protection and put an end to poaching. Rhino Protect stands by their decision to poison the horns and so far Inverdoorns rhino are safe. However, there are some who believe the trade in rhino horn should be legalized, others who believe that dehorning the rhino will save them from being killed. Rhino Protect will serve to create discussion around these issues in a hope to find sustainable solutions to this problem. Inverdoorn currently has three rhino; two adults (male and female) and one female calf that depend on Rhino Protect and Inverdoorn for their survival.
Super Safari
Inverdoorn offers a first-class safari experience with an emphasis on conservation - rhino protection and cheetah conservation the being the main focus.
