My Opera is closing 3rd of March

SOMETIMES I RANT...

and sometimes I just mutter under my breath

Strange weather we're having...

,

Hark! I hear spring arriving early this year!

January was the warmest on record for us, and it sure seems like February is headed in the same direction. If I'm not mistaken, the temperature has gone above 50o F every day so far this month! There are cherry trees in full bloom nearby, and flowers popping up everywhere. I sure hope we don't get a late freeze.

The warm weather makes it very tempting to really get going with the garden, but I suppose I should be a bit cautious. I'm going to plant a few onions today, and some dahlia tubers, and hopefully keep working on the expansion. Digging sod and knocking dirt off the clumps is a lot of work, especially when it's wet. And we have had a lot of rain recently.

Garden expansion project

I'm sure some people would think I'm nuts, but I enjoy all the digging and work in the garden. I can listen to the birds, and enjoy the fresh air - and get some great exercise! Plus the benefits later on when we start eating the food - indeed, we're still eating food from last year's plantings! It is nearly a 365 day garden.

Wastage...Odds and ends...

For whatever reason, this type of work doesn't bother my back. I've done gardening in the past that has - major weeding work! This is more digging, at least for now.

How big is the garden? Hmmm... probably at least 500 square feet (and growing!). I have plans to expand to a new spot in the yard, once I get the already existing garden up and going again. We are very lucky to have full sun during the summer!

I have some flowers here and there, but my main focus is edible plants. Lots of snapdragons in the front of the house - they just came up as a total surprise last year. We've been in the house less than two years, so last year was our first gardening. There are also HUGE lilac trees in the back yard. Good stuff!
