2012 Viking Tour Stage 7: Ulvik - Eidfjord - Hardangervidda - Geilo

After a huge, no I mean huge, breakfast at Brakenes Hotel, pack up the bags, and I cycle off for Eidfjord with Arthur and a nice guy called Per Arne from BOC who tells us of his cycling adventures cycling from Gibraltar to Norway.
After a relaxing ferry ride across Hardangerfjord and a a ride into the village we have an hour to wait before the start.
The master car leads us all together out of the village and on and up and on and up. Through several tunnels the field breaks up and I am alone cycling behind two buses. Eugh.
Out at the top at about 1000m and there's one cyclist about 100m ahead. I call to him and we ride together and manage to pull in a group of 4, including Jens and the Baas brothers. We roll on, though I'm struggling, to the first food station at 36km at the top of the climb. I manage to come out of the food station with the group, we are 5, and the next 2h are an absolute blast, though totally exhausting, crossing Hardangervidda very fast. Just as we are running out of steam and coming into Geilo we are overtaken by a big group including the 2 nearest me in the age group. Damnit I was hoping to beat #40 by 6 minutes to get ahead of him in the total classification, but in the end we hit the final 3.5km climb, the same one we used for the Prologue, together. I manage to edge ahead, but not by enough, and then BAM Viking Tour 2012 is over!
After dropping the bikes off with Arthur we hit Dr Holms bar for an excellent pint, and some food and the prize ceremonies. Viking Tour 2012 thankyou for an amazing ride! And maybe see you again next year.
