I am just waiting for delivery of Acer Aspire 5310, and searching web for info about compatibility, to prepare yourself for exploring/or installing another penguin OS/. When I tried it at a first glance at Win-Win store, there is prompt output telling me that I am logged as root at localhost. I cannot start GUI with command startx, so it can be there is no GUI at all, although that Taiwanese /Fedora-based/ distro use KDE by default. Cannot find any screenshot till now. Linpus`s new site is just under construction yet. They sell two versions - 1 for desktop, 2. as Media Centre system /with option to download for free/.

At some forum posts I see that is not the same in all cases with Linpus on Acer`s.

Linpus with GUI video - http://www.metacafe.com/watch/885449/voip_linux_linpus_linux_lite/
It is possible to download it with GUI /KDE/ - Marketing recovery CD at download section on linpus.com.

For those who are not logged /as root/ I found this:

Password for preinstalled Linpus Linux v9.2 OS.
Problem: at the first systemstart a username and a password is required.
Solution: enter in command prompt /console on black screen/ this:
Username: root
Password: 111111 /hit Enter, of course/ CAUTION /from some French site: Attention the 1 should not be to type with the digital keyboard but the setting in capital letter and the key quantify with the top of the letters/
Suppose if you type: whoami - it will tell you: root
and if you want to logout you can type: logout or ... shutdown -h now or to restart: shutdown -r now if you don`t want to explore system /Google is your best friend especially google.com/linux/
PS - Still searching. Intend to widen this post with more helpful facts.

Installing GUI with console command

Here is HW compatibility review link for Acer Aspire 5310: http://hardware4linux.info/system/1608/

If you type lspci -n in console /bash/ and copy - paste on Debian HCL site http://kmuto.jp/debian/hcl/index.cgi ,you will aquire complete HCL of yours HW - and here is mine /Acer Aspire 5310/

Linpus linux comes only in non-graphical mode /Seems it is semi-open or semi-proprietary/ - must be downloaded from www.linpus.com or www.linpus.com.tw - both are broken links according to OpenDNS results /Seems that Linpus have not wide and good language support and is based on SELinux/.
Download software page - http://linpus.com/
After some exploring I found that is no use to count on Linpus on Acer. It can be useful only for review of HW list for a further exploring of HW compatibility in Linux. After that, must install Lin from some GNU/Linux Live CD. Knoppix, Ubuntu or Slax...

snd-hda-intel configuration here -
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=22383
or maybe this: ¨in - /etc/modprobe.conf - putting a code line:
options snd-hda-intel model=acer ¨ - not worked 4 me /avoid all of that, not to loose time - RESOLVED on 2nd way - see bellow marked green/

or this: create a
file /etc/modprobe.d/sound - containing:

alias snd-card-0 snd-hda-intel
options snd-hda-intel index=0 probe_mask=3 position_fix=3

On hardware4linux I saw that is Alsa 1.0.15 needed.

For those who don`t want to hack Feisty 7.04, Gutsy Gibbon 7.10 Ubuntu release will solve HW compatibility drivers /for sound - Alsa sound system for Realtek chipset, maybe for wireless/. To resolve problems maybe it will be enough to upgrade system/distro.

ADDED 11th January: Tutorials preparing laptop 4 K/X/Ubuntu install - http://www.linlap.com/wiki/ubuntu+kubuntu+xubuntu+guides

ADDED on 14th October at 21.15:

added on 14th November - 2 days ago upgrade to Gutsy. Looks great, but resolve only screen resolution /now existed in drop-down list/
Still need newer Alsa = 1.0.15 /or to try to find patch for Alsa 1.0.14/ /not needed!/

For finding HCL of Atheros wireless chipset

AND maybe works this one /for Aspire 5315/: http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=3695648&postcount=6 Intend to explore after resolve sound probs.

NOTE: Madwifi is not enough, so avoid for now, only ndiswrapper and proprietary Windows driver works! /Not yet 4 me!/

ADDED 22nd Nov: HAVE A SOUND! sudo apt-get linux-backports-modules-generic- THAT SAVE ME! /AND THIS ALSO/
http://ubuntulife.wordpress.com/2009/03/28/tip-comando-simple-para-instalar-todos-los-plugins-de-audio/

Atheros AR5006EG wireless controller - Seems possible to work according madwifi users:
http://madwifi.org/wiki/Compatibility/Atheros#AtherosAR5006EG - not working yet 4 me- maybe next version? correction: It can, but I am not tested yet at some hot-spot. And in fact that is recognized as AR5006EG, but this is AR5007EG!

Somewhere I saw that works only with ndiswrapper with windows driver for that controller /something like - better performance than with madwifi, which works only partially.../ - still exploring...

Convert 3GP to FLV and vice versa in Ubuntu

, , , ...

two steps, messy but effective

first you need software:

ffmpeg Terminal: sudo apt-get install ffmpeg
winff from http://www.biggmatt.com/winff - (OR - http://www.winff.org )
Mobile media converter from http://www.miksoft.net/mobileMediaConverter.htm

(format table FOR MOBILE MEDIA CONVERTER:
from amr to mp3
from mp3, wav, wma to amr
from wmv, mpeg to 3gp
from 3gp to mpeg)

flv to 3gp

Use winff to convert the flv video into wmv format then use mobile media converter to convert the wmv file into a 3gp file
NOTE: i believe the latest version of mobile media converter now handles flv files

3gp to flv

use mobile media converter to convert the 3gp to video for computer (only outputs as mpeg) then use winff to convert the mpeg into flv or other desired format

Ubuntu Linux na tržištu Srbije

, ,

DEFINITIVNO NOMAK sa preinstaliranim UBUNTUima /radi sve out of the box, cak i Beryl - moze se kupiti na sledecim mestima u Srbiji:
