KICK OFF PARTY for FIS

, , ,

I have been in charge of the event KICK OFF PARTY for my faculty - International Studies (FIS). This is the first event to show off FIS and help new FISers gain more knowledge about the faculty. The scale is rather large, so I have lots of stuff to deal with - managing different groups to prepare for the event, writing script for the "TALKSHOW" (with VIP guests) that I have no experience at all. It brings me chances to practice my leadership and management skills; however, trouble comes also.

Is that failure?

I spent my weekend (all 2 days) working on the presentation about "the Toda tribe in India". I did researching, read a lot, discussed with friends, etc. I hoped to make it the best I could. Really I did my utmost. I did not sleep well. I felt excited about searching new info about the Toda tribe though they were conflicting and complicated. What is the result? It was not as good as I expected (not want to say it the worst one I've ever done). All 3 other members in my group were disappointed of the presentation too, regardless that I tried to pretend as 'never mind'. I cannot blame two persons in my group for their laziness and ignorance. I cannot blame anyone because that was my fault. It was me who chose the topic. It was me who wrote the outline of the presentation (and it lacked sth required by the teacher). It was me who did nearly all the research without assigning tasks to other members at first. It was me who did not manage my time effectively for beforehand group rehearsal. It was all my fault. It appeared that I was the leader of that group but I made them indirect.

Keep these things in mind:

1 - Think over next time about the requirements of the teacher and closely follow her outline instead of inventing another outline. Think twice before starting to do sth.

2 - Then choose the relevant topic which reaches the consensus of all members and assign tasks to them.

3 - Manage time for GROUP REHEARSAL - this is the most important point that I made light of. My bad!

Ok. Three points to remember. Above all, 'practice makes perfect'. Try my best next times. Be calm and mature! And I believe that we will be paid fairly for all our effort. It's failure but failure is the mother of success, I've learnt sth from it - so have to go on anyway (disappointment is not a solution - it leads to nothing). My optimism. TRY!

God! I love it!

Wow.......... In the end, I finished my Research Project, which took (and exhausted)me nearly 1 month. Everything is OK now. I don't know what mark I will get, but at least, I accomplished the most tiring task this term.

Can you imagine how happy I am now? I've experienced a new skill at school: Team work. Yep, it sounds familiar, right? During this semester, I had 3 tasks to fulfill: Writing a research project, Debating test and a presentation on tourism field, all of which were carried out in pairs and groups. This helped me considerably improve my team work skill.

In fact,Vietnamese students are said to be terribly bad at working in groups. So am I. At first, I got into trouble cooperating with one of my friends. We couldn't be in good terms with each other whenever discussing about "Debating topics". Thus, our progress was too slow while the test was coming nearner and nearer (1 week left then). But later, we had to "look back" and try to find the reasons of this conflict. Bad team work skill was to blame. Both of us discussed about it and found a solution to deal with the upcoming test. At last, we worked it out. Now, we can associate with each other well. She even told me that she felf good working with me. How happy I am!

Although academic environment sometimes drives me crazy due to its inflexibility or even rigidity, it provides me with certain skills necessary for life. Yeah, I appreciate it (to some extent). The decision depends on me, not my teachers and my friends.

Oh, I'm happy and lucky! Good luck to all of u!!!

I got a headache

,

I claimed proudly a few months ago that how lovely my university was. But ... now, I'm going to scream out loud that WHAT A STUFF!
All of students in HANU must study very hard, not me alone. We have a lot of "clutter" (homework, assigments, reseach projects...) to fulfill within one year only. The most terrible thing is our schedule. We go to school all days from Monday to Saturday and have a lovely Sunday off only.
What's more, too heavy stuff of curricula drive us crazy. 11 subjects related to english are prepared for students to "flood" them. God! What a terrible thing to think of!!!
Ack .... I'm sitting in the computer lab and the "NOBITA" teacher is staring at me. Be careful! I didn'finish this lesson's exercises anyway. I'm exhausted and cannot concentrate anymore.

Just complaining a little bit. Don't mention! We HANU's students will recover after this "disaster" soon. Good luck to all of us!
