Internal Communications at Opera

The Norwegian minister of Reform and Administration together with the Norwegian ambassador to Poland Enok Nygaard visited the Opera office in Warsaw, Poland last week.

The Go Turbo competition in the Opera offices in Scandinavia is now finished. This was a part of the internal celebration after the launch of the latest desktop version Opera 11.10. To mark this release and to blow off some steam, the teams in Norway and Sweden took the trip to their closest go kart rink.

Celebrating Hern Labs

Friday October 10 was the anniversary for the founding of HERN Labs. HERN Labs was founded in 1998, and two years later, HERN Labs became Opera Software. HERN is short for Henrik, Erik, Rikard and Nicklas, and on Friday, all four joined us for a big party in Linköping on Friday. (Erik is no longer working at Opera)

We met at the office in Linköping, where we first played a nationality bingo with the 15 nationalities represented at the Opera Sweden office. We had a buffet with food from all the different nations, sung lots of songs, told jokes, and all the four HERN founders held a speech.
After dinner, all guests were divided into groups that were to write a song for HERN and Opera Software based on certain words. Later, each group performed their song, and it was amazing what the groups had made! Throughout the whole night, we also had individual competitions, where the goal was to collect pins with pictures of the HERN guys.

Pins were awarded for correct answers during dinner and other fun stuff. The winners were Jenni and Markus. Congratulations!

Opera Backstage Wrocław

It was hard to get past the bouncers at the Opera Backstage event in Wrocław Thursday October 9. We were more than 120 people gathered to hear Håkon Wium Lie's talk "How long will the Web last?" at the bar 7 Kotów in Wrocław.

It was a pleasure for me and my colleagues at Opera in Wrocław to host an Opera Backstage event in the city where we now have the second largest Opera office. Oslo is the biggest, Wrocław number two, before Linköping in Sweden.

Håkon's talk was very interesting and it spurred many interesting conversations among the attendees. In addition, we managed to drink lots of beer and soft drinks, not to mention all the pizzas, chips and other snacks we consumed.

Thanks to all of you who took part in the Opera Mini quiz. The winner received a Nintendo Wii, and 20 people won Opera T-shirts.

Opera @ CTIA IT & ENT

Opera hosted a meeting room at the Moscone Center in San Francisco for CTIA IT & ENT this month.

The Opera CTIA IT & ENT team hosted a customer party at San Francisco's "supperclub" and greeted more than 130 guests.

Junior high school students visiting Opera

Seventy-five junior high school students came visiting Opera one day. They were taking a walk along Akerselva (the river that runs next to Opera). One of the mothers of this group of students happens to be working at Opera, and she had asked them to stop by the office. They were on a trip to look at the types of businesses that were in the area, and maybe think of what types of businesses have been along Akerselva historically.

We gave them one cap each, and this is the jubilant expressions they gave us in return.
