Yep. Cake. HA. The irony!
Of course a few minutes before that i wrote about how i didn't know if i could be bothered to carry this blog on or not. Clearly Opera answered my ramblings and made the decision for me . NEJ they said, from their big O in the sky. Of course they said Nej and not No, because we found their headquarters in Gothenburg. I don't care if they have other headquarters, this is THE headquarters because its the only one with a photo of me pointing my finger at it. Clearly that makes it important.
Anyway, i don't mind that Opera is closing. No one really blogs here anymore anyway. There is no community any longer. It's moved on. Most people that i care about reading have slowed down, stopped, gone to Facebook, turned to a life of crime, you know... and i like the idea of starting a fresh elsewhere. A bit like a spring clean.
Originally i wasn't going to bother, been as i'd struggled for blog material previously, but i wanted to post some photos i had taken recently when i thought about just having a photo blog. Then if i want to write something, i can, but if i don't, then i don't. I realise i could of done this here, but on Wordpress i can have MASSIVE photos on the screen, all up in your face! POW!
Yes the adverts on other platforms can suck and blah blah, but they have to pay for themselves and I have yet to see any on mine or anywhere else that annoy me greatly. It's interesting how i've heard people around here suggesting that Opera should of done adverts to keep the blogging community open, yet the fact there are no adverts is something everyone likes! If they had done adverts i can just imagine the uproar. And really, nobody would of started blogging like crazy again. We've moved on.
I think Opera would have a hard time winning here. For months i've heard people moaning left, right and centre about this place...the photos don't work, there are too many spammers, my miniature toilet won't flush...i can't say i've had any problems, but still...then they close because, understandably, they can't keep up with other blogging platforms and what happens? Oh look, moaning left, right and centre.
People on Opera Forum: "I'm not at all surprised because this place sucks but WHAT THE HELL YOU CAN'T CLOSE THIS PLACE??!!"
Basically, to conclude everything, what i'm saying is, I NEVER HAVE TO LISTEN TO LORENZO AGAIN! YEEESSSS!!!!
I agree with some friends of mine who posted similar musings recently of how, in a way, you imagine this will be here forever. Something for your grandchildren to look back on in morbid embarrassment. And although you probably knew in the back of your mind that one day it would close, it's still a shame when it does. But i'm not going to sit here dissecting Opera and spitting on them. I made friends here that i hope i stay in contact with forever. We traded postcards and christmas chocolates and dvds on Canadian Bacon (did Henry ever get that back? ). We followed each others lives...A baby was born! A canadian married a canadian! A student became a chip-eating illustration goddess! A horse met a donkey! I met an Irish donkey! Okay, so technically we only have Opera to thank for one of those, but you get what i mean. None of that is lost. My first born will still be called "TCG".
I hope you come watch me post pictures of my boring life (http://lixxylu.wordpress.com) while i read about your boring lives and we all live happily boring ever after riding unicorn foxes on a bubble gum rainbow cloud.
I've been eating chocolate. Sorry.
