There's A Bogeyman In My Loft....Maybe

attics, ramble
Time for some randomness ramble...

Lofts. Attics. Space Under The Roof. Sky Parlor...

Anyway, i just put my fan up there for the winter and was wondering why they are peceived as scary places. Thats our loft. Is it scary? I find the possiblity of falling off the ladder more freaky then the actual room/space, but my sister hates them...and i mean HATES them. My mum doesn't like going up there either, but she is scared of heights - two big steps would worry her. So not wanting to scale a loft ladder is understandable. With regards to my sis, we once looked at a house and in one of the bedrooms there was the hatchway to the attic. She didn't even like standing in the room with it! The conversation was basically...
Me:
"Ooo this room is quite nice"
Her:
"Is that...is that the attic hatch?"
Me:
"Oh, yeah...but what do you think of-"
Her:
"Thats the attic hatch"
Me:
"Yes but what-"
Her:
*leaves room*

I think when the light is on up there, she's not so bothered, but i've never seen her actually go up into one. Maybe its cause you have to poke your head up into a dark space at first and i guess if the axe-murderer/bogeyman is in residence he might like to take your head? Although, she
might hate attics because, when she was 6 i did tell her that the tapping sound coming from up there was in fact a murdering dolly who was luring our parents up there under the pretence it was a leaky pipe....
I personally do not think this affected her at all.

One year we took down the xmas tree box, and the sellotape sticking it together had burst, with the result that there were numerous massive dead spiders stuck all over the sticky side of the tape...which was only discovered upon holding the box in the dark attic and feeling strange crunchy things stuck to it...
One time the hatch was opened and a giant spider rolled down from what had been the attic floor only second before. I always open attic doors standing at the other side now!

Yeah, you have be careful what you tell the sprogglings; I absentmindedly told my 'lill bro tha my folks wished that they had a daughter too, and his little mind turned that into them wishing that he had been a girl; it became the root of years of depression.

It's a lie.
I can still remember some of the cruel things people have said to me. It takes a conscious effort to look for and say the positive things about other people - even about myself. For some of us, self-confidence is a fragile thing.

Most of the houses in SA don't have attics.. or basements for that matter. I don't like our garage when it's dark.. i have visions of rats swooping from the ceiling and attacking my head!

My great aunt Peg, a nun, lived in Kenya for many years, she told me that they had rats the size of dogs there. I've seen a rat that was twelve inches long, excluding the tail, creeping into the local pizza and beer place.

We have one in our roof, we hear him bounding (literally bounding, he must weigh ALOT!) across the ceiling at night.. must make a plan to exterminate..

Rats are aweeeesome - send it to me instead of exterminating.

We have an attic but it's filled with a lot of insulation so I doubt much is up there. Plus the attic door/hatch is in the garage in an odd place so it's almost impossible to get up too. So no rats. but bunches of field mice under the crawl space
Yikes, diamond cutting rats there and insane turkey with razor machete talons here! It's a scary world

Well, for crawling basically.
I think the house is raised a several inches so that if some poor soul must fix plumbing pipes, they are able to crawl under the house (and through God knows what) to get to them.
Easier than busting through the concrete on a slab foundation.
