World's Smallest Banana??

Keeper:  *leaves fridge*
Me: *skips into kitchen* Look at this banana! banana

Keeper:
Me: *skips into the staff room* Look at this bana-
Head Keeper: Get back to work!
Me: Yes sir! :insane: *legs it with banana*

Ok maybe i exagerrated the ending there for dramatic effect , but i did show a lot of people and for some weird reason they were not as excited as me at the discovery of a tiny nana! They crazy, whats wrong with them?? Its a tiny BANANA banana :hat:! But do you know what i thought? My blog friends will LUUURVE tiny nana's! banana And i win the award for most useage of the banana smiley! banana

P.S. Please note that this baby banana was later adopted by big banana (pictured right) and they now live peacefully together on a book shelf, until soon when they will take their destined voyage to the tranquil planes of Lucy's stomach, where all good law-obiding bananas go... banana

(Disclaimer: No banana skins were smoked in the making of this blog post)

They sell those here  I never buy them because I only buy fair trade organic bananas to balance out all of the murders I commit or something. But they are cute.

Hermitess 10. November 2009, 02:12

Gavin :yikes:

Cute little nanner! LOL I would love to see you skipping about shoving the tiny little thing in people's faces.

It looks rather bruised though, not sure it'll be very good to eat. :yuck:

I was going to ask why do you have a banana box at your work, banana obsessed? then I remembered WHERE you work. Homer: Doh!

SpicyFlier 10. November 2009, 06:04

Bruised and over-ripe bananas can be used in banana bread, yes?

I question that disclaimer. Totally.

kirstycat 10. November 2009, 09:45

You could eat that tiny banana all in one go!
I've never seen such a tiny banana :eyes:

a mini banana cake is in the pipeline! dwarf banana! (or was that insensitive of me? )

Hermitess 10. November 2009, 16:30

likes banana bread.... what is this cake you speak of?

lixxylu 10. November 2009, 18:01

I've never had banana bread or banana cake, but if they both taste bananary i'll prob like it

I eat brown bananas, what's wrong with them?? - they still taste bananary! They are just slightly slimey

And i think the correct term is "restricted growth" banana...let's not offend small nanas here.

ShallowMuse 10. November 2009, 20:12

You guys! :eyes: Never had banana bread?? *must post recipe soon!*
I prefer the greener bananas, slighty with more bite. me no likey slimey banananas!

lixxylu 10. November 2009, 21:26

Yes post recipe! Especially if it is idiot-proof cause then i might be able to make it!
I find spotty bananas taste too chemically :yuck: so as long as it doesnt have spots i dont mind how old it is...well, obviously if its black and green i might pass...

Hermitess 10. November 2009, 23:08

I really don't like overripe banananananas They have to be firm and a teeny bit green.

Do you know how to make pumpkin bread? It's the same I think except you put overripe banananananas and some walnuts in. I can post a yummy recipe

SpicyFlier 10. November 2009, 23:24

I have an awesome recipe for Banana Nut Bread that can be done in a slow cooker (a.k.a. Crock-Pot). Comes out perfect every time because it's cooked sloooowwwww. Takes about 2.5-3 hours. No burning and all the moisture stays in the cake! Mmmmmm... :chef:

Hermitess 11. November 2009, 00:52

What?!!
That's just insane enough to work!

share share!

SpicyFlier 11. November 2009, 01:43

From the pages of Mable Hoffman's "Crockery Cookery" (still in print for more than 30 years - a 'must get' slow cooker book):

Banana Nut Bread
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup sugar
2 eggs
1-3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1 cup mashed ripe banananas banana
1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Cream together shortening and sugar; add eggs and beat well. Sift dry ingredients; add to creamed mixture alternately with banana, blending well after each addition. Stir in nuts. Pour into a well-greased 4- to 6-cup mold (I have used a large empty coffee tin, without a lip on the inside top edge, for the mold). Cover with foil (shiny side in) and tie with string. Pour 2 cups hot water in slow-cooking pot. Place mold on rack or trivet in pot (I usually just gently pushed to the bottom and used heavy elastic bands to keep the cover down). Cover and cook on high 2 to 3 hours or until bread is done. Serve warm or cool, with butter, peanut butter or cream cheese.

garlingmatthews 11. November 2009, 05:16

Fried banana with ice cream, mm mm.

Hermitess 11. November 2009, 13:14

That sounds good Henry.
A mold, really? Thought I could just dump it all in.

scrapes out crock pot :right:

What happens if the foil is shiny side out? What if I don't drink coffee? Can I substitute the shortening because you know it's really not healthy, any fat that solidifies at room temperature, I mean, ew, can you imagine that in your body? Do I have to share once it's made? What kind of rubber bands did you use? Cream cheese? I never would have thought to use that. Interesting.

*deep breath*

Gavin, I've never eaten fried bananas.
*marks down to try*

lixxylu 11. November 2009, 13:28

shortening?! Never heard of it. Peanut butter?? Cream Cheese???! :yuck: Your sick.
I also don't have a mold, or drink coffee, or have string...i can't believe i dont have string. Hmmm I must get some string.

garlingmatthews 11. November 2009, 14:06

You don't eat shortening, Lucy, for the same reason that I don't. I don't even have string theory.

With a little bit of cinnamon. :D

ShallowMuse 11. November 2009, 16:27

Americans lurrvvve cream cheese!

CINNABONS!! :D yum x 10000000!

garlingmatthews 11. November 2009, 19:38

Wow, you should move here, B. Swedes are crazy for cinnie! :chef:

ShallowMuse 11. November 2009, 19:43

for real? hmmmm... a little far to move for something i can get here though!

garlingmatthews 11. November 2009, 20:10

I guess. :frown: Woulda made the place more interesting, though.

Hermitess 11. November 2009, 21:43

Drive.Thru.Bakery.

Come on! Everyone should move here just for that.

Pillsbury sells these bake at home cinnabons and you can choose either cream cheese icing or butter cream icing. Guess which I like.

I have some in the fridge!!! :D :D

SpicyFlier 11. November 2009, 23:17

Nah, if you just dump it all in with the water, it would be mess. I'm sure one of your coffee-loving friends would be glad to give you a tin. Shiny side of foil reflects more heat to the inside of the mold.

I use Crisco vegetable based shortening. It is the same stuff used for making pie crusts.

When it is done, I usually spread butter over a warm slice. It is reluctantly shared....

ShallowMuse 12. November 2009, 04:27

Crisco! Aha! Last night i watched an episode of Scrubs and JD was rubbing Crisco on Keiths back instead of sunblock & Keith was all like, this smells like a pie! Ah, i love Scrubs.

Hermitess 12. November 2009, 05:48

 pie  I love scrubs!

Hermit wants to be Dr. Cox.

mmmmmmmm banana bread with butter... that's how I usually eat it! No Henry, I thought you were going to say we could just put the batter straight into the crock (no water or mold) and it'd make a little round bread.

Geez with all this talk I'm going to have to get some nanas and let them ripen.

ShallowMuse 12. November 2009, 11:18

..by putting them in a brown paper bag in a dark place!

oh yeah! Scrubs fans unite!

lixxylu 12. November 2009, 14:23

My favourite scrubs bit > http://my.opera.com/lixxylu/blog/show.dml/3176548

I loves it!

Crisco? Gah England doesn't have any of this stuff!

ShallowMuse 12. November 2009, 15:42

 i love the little day dreams JD has! frikkin hilarious!
yea we also dont have Crisco.. I think SA and England are more similar to eachother in some respects!

Hermitess 12. November 2009, 18:13

You are not missing out on much by not having Crisco brand shortening. p:

I could send you two a bit if you are feeling left out!

ShallowMuse 12. November 2009, 18:13

Oh please! My life would be complete!

Hermitess 12. November 2009, 18:17

 you laugh, but then you'll get a tub of white lard in the mail.

ShallowMuse 12. November 2009, 18:19

that i can use for sunscreen, duh! Crisco, Doesnt Make YOU Crispy! *buy now!*

Hermitess 12. November 2009, 18:24

mmmm I smell pie

lixxylu 12. November 2009, 18:34

Lard?? Ewwww is that what it is?!
I've changed my mind, i'm not missing out!!

Hermitess 12. November 2009, 18:36

Pretty much.

I don't use it. ew.

garlingmatthews 12. November 2009, 19:45

That's what I said, Lucy  Thought shortening can be from any creature. My one-time favourite Irish biscuit, Club Milk, contained fish shortening.

lixxylu 12. November 2009, 20:08

fish fat?? Thats not Club as in... :sing:"If you liiike alotta chocolate on your biscuit join our..CLUB" :sing: ...I hope not i liked them!
*cue stares indicating no-one knows what i'm talking about*

garlingmatthews 12. November 2009, 20:48

Oh. It probably is, it was Cadburys. I didn't know that ye had them too. I think that they changed the ingredients later. Did you eat the chocolate first? Now I want a Club Milk. Damn. Cadburys don't sell in Sweden.

What I have used is not lard. No animals were harmed in the making of that product.

If y'all keep jawin', the rest of the banana nut bread is gonna' be mine!! Mmmmmm...... :chef:
