The French coin depicting the Taj (released by the Paris mint). It weighs around 1 kg and carries 50 diamonds. It is priced at $140,000. A silver replica of the coin costing around Rs.3,000 is available for sale in Agra.

Taj Mahal is the most famous icon of India when it comes to international travelers and dignitaries alike. Taj Mahal has seen many a state dignitaries and Kings and princesses and actors making their obeisance to this spectacular monument of love. Bird's-eye view of Taj Mahal from camera tied to kite

A photographer has used a giant kite to capture a bird's-eye view of Taj Mahal. He uses a remote control to move the cradle and camera into the best position to take the picture.

“From above it’s a completely new vision, new perspectives, new ways to understand the landscape and heritage,” he said.

“Every place has something interesting to show from above. The results are full of discovery, showing new perspectives, new shadows.

“Getting so close to subjects is magical, exquisite and thrilling.”

Human load is a growing threat to Taj Mahal

With thousands freely entering the majestic Taj Mahal for the three-day Urs celebrations that end Sunday, questions are being raised over the security of the white marble wonder that thousands come to see from all over the world.

Historians and conservationists now feel the marble edifice is being endangered by a surfeit of love and interest showered by its admirers whose number continues to soar sky high. From a few hundred at the time of independence, the daily influx of visitors from all corners has now crossed 12,000. On some days it crosses the 30,000 mark. During the annual Urs it touches 100,000.

The Tajmahal is at its most alluring in the relative quiet of early morning, shrouded in mists and bathed with a soft red glow. As its vast marble surfaces fall into shadow or reflect the sun, its colour changes, from soft grey and yellow to pearly cream and da zzling white. it's well worth visiting at different times.

crafts and celebration of local heritage and culture, that commenced at the Shilpgram,one km east of the Taj Mahal,near Agra.

classical dance performances, and offered a variety of entertainment including elephant and camel
rides, games, and a food festival.

354th death anniversary of Mughal Emperor Shahjahan, who built the world-renowned monument Taj Mahal

Mughal Emperor Shahjahan, who built the world-renowned monument Taj Mahal, was remembered on his 354th death anniversary.
Locals carry a 300-meters-long (seven-coloured chadar) religious cloth to be offered at the mausoleum of Mughal emperor Shah Jahan during 354th death anniversary of Shah Jahan at Taj Mahal in Agra, India.
Thousands(60,000) of people visited the mausoleum to offer prayers.
A 300 metre long seven-coloured chadar (sheet) was laid on the graves of the Mughal emperor Shahjahan and his queen Mumtaz Mahal.
During the anniversary celebration, the visitors got a rare opportunity to see the graves in the basement of the mausoleum as normally people are permitted to the replica of the graves on the first floor (platform).
