I hope your not using windows.
this is why you should consider linux. actually windows server has a flaw which allows the worm to spread like crazy across the web. there's always linux! or solaris...or fedora. ok ok so no reason to panic now that the number of infected pc's jumped from 3 million to over 9 million. this is getting out of hand! so what exactly is the conficker worm? well good question! all i know is worms aren't good if you get one in your system!
“We think this is a wide-scale distraction to hide data breaches,” said Ryan Sherstobitoff, chief corporate evangelist for Panda Security. “It does not appear in the variants of Conficker that they are building a botnet, but that wouldn’t surprise us, either. This is an attack we have not seen in some time and is certainly a warning sign for something more to come.”
Worms like Conficker not only ricochet around the Internet at lightning speed, they harness infected computers into unified systems called botnets, which can then accept programming instructions from their clandestine masters. “If you’re looking for a digital Pearl Harbor, we now have the Japanese ships steaming toward us on the horizon,” said Rick Wesson, chief executive of Support Intelligence, a computer security consulting firm based in San Francisco.
According to Microsoft, the worm works by searching for a Windows executable file called "services.exe" and then becomes part of that code.
It then copies itself into the Windows system folder as a random file of a type known as a "dll". It gives itself a 5-8 character name, such as piftoc.dll, and then modifies the Registry, which lists key Windows settings, to run the infected dll file as a service.
if the internet still exists a week or two from now i'll be sure to update anyone who reads my lame blog posts. *uggh* i need to get a life
