FaceBabel tries to solve a small, practical problem: translating status and messages in Facebook.
With FaceBabel, you only have to click on them to get a translation in you favorite language, using Google Translate.
At the moment, FaceBabel can translate status updates, comments, events (partially) and private messages.
When you move the mouse over a content that can be translated, FaceBabel hi-lights it, and if you click, the text translated is out below the original text.
Ideally FaceBabel does not require configuration, as it tries to detect the user language from the browser (starting from version 1.1). But if you want to choose a different language, you can easily change it:
- On the main Menu, select 'Extensions' > 'Manage Extensions'.
- Click the "gear" icon next to FaceBabel, and select 'Preferences'
- Just select your language from the list (no need to save)
FaceBabel uses Google Translate to detect the language and to translate the elements that you click, and only those. This means that every content that you translate (only when you click on it) will be sent to Google, using a secure connection.
FaceBabel is active only in Facebook.
