Of Phantom Hourglass, Circuit City, and TV

, , , ...

I picked up Phantom Hourglass at Circuit City tonight. From what I've played, it's awesome, but I still can't stand the cel-shaded graphics.

I got the "Zelda kit" for free. They wouldn't let me use the discout card because you "can't combine two offers". A load of crap, but meh, I have teh Zelda.

Also, Boston Legal is friggin awesome. Just so you know.

Of TV, video games, and BIRFDAYS

, , , ...

Today is my mom's birfday. \o/ Very exciting.

A little known game called Halo 3 released today. Now, this bugs me. The game is total crap (woo I said it), but it still gets tons more mainstream media coverage that Nintendo's top-notch games. Why is this? The marketing team at Microsoft is much smarter than Nintendo's marketing team. If Nintendo would step up and partner with McDonald's, Coke, and other huge names they might get some publicity. I think that at least one game is getting enough publicity: Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Bad choice. Mario Galaxy is, in my opinion, a MUCH better game. Ever Metroid was a better game. Granted, I haven't played Galaxy or Brawl yet; but if the past in the series are any indication, Galaxy has the upper-hand.

And finally, TV. Here's some thoughts on last night's shows:

Chuck - NBC Perfect in every way. I'm calling it the best new show of the season. The sad thing is that I got all of the "nerdy" references...

Two and a Half Men - CBS Hilarious. Charlie Sheen's acting is top-notch, and I'm looking forward to the new episodes. Just the right amount of humor.

Journeyman - NBC This one gets a major meh. About fifteen minutes in, I turned to watch the CSI: Miami premiere (which rocked BTW). Maybe I'm missing out on a gem, but this one did not keep me hooked.

Tonight I'll be watching:

Beauty and the Geek - CW Meh, nothing else is on and this is a pretty entertaining show

House - FOX House is awesome. It's the perfect mix of comedy and drama.

Boston Legal - ABC This is one of my favorite shows ever. EVER. And do I even need to elaborate? This show has The Shat, so it's got to be awesome.

Major Shake-up At Nintendo

, , , ...

Wow. Just wow.

Some of you may remember that Nintendo had previously told its employees in the sales and marketing divisions, based out of Redmond and Seattle, that they would be moving these divisions to the Los Angeles area and New York City. The employees were given an ultimatum: either make the move with Nintendo, or give up their job. They had until June to make the choice.

Now that the deadline has passed, we are starting to hear of the effects of this move. GameInformer is reporting that not only did 90% of the sales and marketing divisons quit, three of NOA's most notable figures have stepped down. The three key executives leaving are: Beth Llewelyn (Senior Director of Public Relations), Perrin Kaplan (Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Affairs), and George Harrison (Senior Vice President Marketing and Corporate Communications) (no, he wasn't one of the Beatles :D ).

It is not currently known when these people will actually step down (or when NOA will make the move), but GameInformer is probably right in betting that it won't happen until after this years E3.

This is pretty major news. What will this mean for the future of the company? Will they decide not to re-locate to keep from losing such major people? Or will they just be replaced in New York? Discuss it in the comments.

I have contacted Nintendo for a confirmation, and will post here either way.

UPDATE: It may have just been a rumor. This text comes from an interview with Harrison:

Harrison, who is the senior executive in charge of sales and marketing, will be moving, with about sixty people from NOA. President Reggie Fils-Aime will remain in Seattle, Harrison said.

And from an interview with Kaplan:

GameInformer: Are you going to have to move?

Perrin Kaplan: Well I could choose not to. But we are relocating that part of the division down there [San Francisco, California]. And then also in New York.

GI: So what’s moving where?

Kaplan: Sales and Marketing is moving to Silicon Valley – San Francisco. And Online and some of my department is moving to New York.

GI: Would you take a different position if you didn’t move?

Kaplan: If I choose to stay in Seattle, I’ll do something else.

GI: For a different company?

Kaplan: Yes. The problem is that I love my job.

GI: Do you love Seattle?

Kaplan: But I love Seattle, so I have a little bit of a dilemma.

While Harrison made it quite clear he was making the move, Kaplan wasn't exactly sure. She did mention that if she didn't move, she would take a job with another company, and that she loved Seattle, but she also mentioned that she loved her job.

Still waiting for a response from Nintendo...

Box-Art Design

, , , ...

Random post time. :D

Very few of you probably know this, but I have been into graphic design for quite a while. I think I'm almost sorta-kinda pretty a little good at it (ha), but I've never posted any of my stuff here.

Yesterday, I had an awesome idea. Why not design box-art(s) for unreleased games or spoof games? I looked it up, and of course there was an entire site dedicated to it, which I promptly joined. If you want to check it out, go to: http://www.vgboxart.com

Anyway, I've started my first cover, which is one for Super Mario Galaxy. It looks kicky sweet at the moment, but is still unfinish.ed. Check back for updates on this and other covers.

If anyone has a request for a cover, just let me know and I'll try to make one. This goes for any system, any game, but of course I prefer Nintendo. :D

Now, if anyone knows of a good Mario font.... :D
