Project Qatar

The Kahramaa Educational Museum Park
(Hydroeletric Sphere) in Doha-Qatar. The
concept of this building is emerged from
capturing the state of this fundamental
element in which a single drop of water fall
down and bounced back from the water
surface.
The water droplet creates the form with the
structural principle which is novel and
unique. It is composed with a series of oval
elements stands vertically and revolved to
create a radial grid. This distinctive structure
approach provides a wide span and flexible
space in every level without any intermediate
columns. The water surface at ground floors
is a reflective pool which is a water feature
and cooling system of the building. With the
inspiration from water molecules of H2O, the
interior space of main building is occupied by
every exhibition blobs which are floating in
the space individually by the connection of
hanging members. The spiral ramps between
exhibition blobs represent the current and
spiral of life. Like the circle of life in the
nature, the building is not just an
architectural space but also a mini-globe
which self sustain and renew to become a
sustainable green building.

Environmental Issues
Qatar Kahramaa Education Park complies
with the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED
Guideline Specifications for green buildings.
The greenery concept and systems have been
adapted to architectural construction
together and normal maintenance methods.

Eco-system
The intelligent facade system has solar panel
adopted in order to face the particular
direction to supplement power needs of
building. The intelligent lighting systems with
motion sensors which control the brightness
of lighting for different weather will be
installed at landscape garden to supply the
power needs.

Cybertecture
The distinctive building has innovative
construction methods and systems different
from other traditional buildings which enrich
its uniqueness and green concept in order to
become a landmark architectural space in
21st century.

Intelligent Facade
Various transparency of glass with different
thermal performances is strategically
arranged on facade to control sunlight
penetration and reduce heat gain inside the
building as well as optimize the building
orientation. Several eco-technologies and
systems such as BIPV panels are also
installed to provide renewable energy to
supplement the power needs.

Distinctive Structure
The radial grid suspended by hanging
elements approaches a distinctive structure
provides a column free and flexible interior
space in every level.

Natural Ventilation
By the incorporation of operable windows,
this enables the building to generate a self
breathing environment. The column free and
wide span interior space has no barrier
which allows the building naturally ventilated
from ground to roof levels. Waterfall and
pool enhance the ventilation path of the
building.

Water Conservation
The illustrative laboratory has shown the
process of sewage treatment system which
allows visitors to understand the procedure
of water conservation system. The recycled
water can be used for sky garden irrigation.

Green Features
The green garden located at open areas near
the entrance allows the environment more
green and comfortable. The waterfall and
reflective pool can reduce heat gain and cool
down the heat gain of the facade of main
building. The interior garden at basement
and sky garden at roof floor enhance the
cooling effect of surrounding environment,
which provide a comfortable environment for
the park and surroundings region. — di
