Just saw it from this post, after a few minutes playing with it, I'm impressed by what I see. Haven't used it for a very long time, so this time I'll write a little on it. And more to come, certainly.

Oh yes, CodeX provides free trials, so you may want to check it out. It's sweet.



First, everything in CodeX is organized in "Pages": notes, ideas, plans, files and lists can be added to a page.

That's a page!
Everything inside a page is called "segment", and you can re-order them using drag-and-drop. Very simple to layout your page.




Main window - Did I miss something today?

As you can see from above, the main window provide me a quick glance of my schedule and checklists for today. And, under the checklists is the list of my recently used pages, so that everything I need is just there for me to pick up.

Oh, yeah. You might have seen that from the image above, that I have already picked up my suitcases and now I can go hiking anytime --- The lists in CodeX allows you to mark/unmark it. it's a very sweet design if you make to-do lists a lot.


Generally speaking there are lots of sparks but I'm gonna cover something really useful, to me at least.

I write papers a lot.(No, that's not a "Academic Paper" ) So "Save As" could be the most important feature to me for obvious reasons.

Now in codex I can use the "snapshot" feature which allows me to take snapshots of my pages really fast and easy.



As you can see from the image above, the little camera icon is lit because I've clicked on it and the black "film-alike" panel is shown.

Clicking on the left icon in the black panel will take a snapshot of your page immediately, and the snapshot will be shown next to it. Yes, I've taken one so you can see how it works.

Every time I need it, I click to show the panel, and just by another click on the little camera icon, the panel will disappear and I can get back to my work.

In short, CodeX is really a sweet productivity program, and it is and looks user-friendly.

It's as if the first time I used it, I knew that some really dedicated people came up with something that works really well.

Well, I gotta take some rest now. More to come.

这两天用Keynote帮助一好友制作presentation。有些感慨，在此发发牢骚。

苹果的Keynote 3，一直以来被我和周围的人（都被我毒了）认为是PowerPoint的终结者。
通过这两天的应用，除了体会到Keynote的功能体贴之外，还感受到了一些功能的不足。

第一个不足就是keynote对音频支持的不好。
在ppt里，你在一页中插入音频，可以选择它是自动播放，还是手动播放。可以在演示时随时通过点击来实现播放，暂停，重新播放或继续播放。

而在Keynote里，这样一个简单而必要的功能竟被省略掉了:插入的音频被keynote“自作聪明”地自动播放。而且，演示时界面上根本没有控制的选项。这样到好了: 我要暂停怎么办? 音乐播放到一般我要插两句话，说完之后要继续播放音乐，怎么办？？？

当然，有一些workaround能实现音乐随时停止，以及随时”重来“的功能: 在播放音乐这个slide后面再建立一个一模一样的页面,把音乐去掉，并且中间无过场。这样，想停止音乐的时候，按下一张slide就ok啦。观众们不会知道你切换了页面，而音乐却停了。想重新播放？切换回上一张slide即可。

更正一下，其实随时开始和停止音乐在keynote中有更好地实现方法。这就是：
1. 把音乐文件拽到keynote里
2. 选中喇叭图标,在inspector中的Build In栏中，随便选一种build in（反正就是不让它自己出来就行），然后自己定义是这个音乐跟在谁后面出来，时间延迟等等...

不得不承认是自己不虚心...
不过就是这样实现了, 下面的问题依然不能得到解决...

这个问题似乎解决了？非也。

朋友要演讲的地方没苹果可用。只好导出成qt影片。导出一切顺利，可惜又发现了一个问题，实际上是视频格式的硬伤: 播放音乐的时候，视频内容也是在以每秒钟24祯的速度前进 ---- 废话。但这说明了什么问题？这说明我们刚才提到的workaround都白费了。为啥？因为播放音乐的时候你不能直接跳到下一张幻灯片。好了。既然这样，我们又如何随意控制音乐的停止和播放？！

这里应该提到interactive quicktime movie这个比较先进的视频格式的工作原理。我猜想（没查过资料，有知道的请注释一下，让我长长见识）这个“互动”是这样实现的：设置一些“特殊祯”。quicktime播放到这个特殊桢时，暂停播放。当检测到按键或鼠标按键时，影片继续播放，直到下一个特殊桢。这也就说明了，为何不能在音乐播放时跳转到下个特殊祯的原因吧，因为那时候影片处于播放状态，根本不接受键盘或鼠标的事件。

关于keynote对声音的支持，实在是不厚道。

另外一个问题就是，在一个slide当中插入了音频，很长的音乐，例如，某音乐作品第1乐章。如果presentation是进行作品分析的话，必然牵扯到多张页面一段音乐持续播放的问题。

如何实现？

powerpoint有好招数。其实ppt也不能做这个（同样没查过资料，请各位指正），但ppt里可以超级链接到外部文件，比如链接到“第一乐章.wma“。这样，ppt就神不知鬼不觉地在后台启动了什么播放程序，来播放这个音频。

keynote倒是”很安全“。因为keynote里的超级链接根本不允许链接到普通文件，只能链接到另外一个keynote文件，或是e-mail...真不知道是怎么想的.

当然，这个问题还是能够解决滴，因为好在keynote还支持一个全局音乐的设置，于是我们就可以再另外建立一个keynote文件，专门描述这段音乐，并给这个keynote文件设置一个全局播放音乐的属性。

麻烦就在于，你讲一段内容可能要牵扯若干个keynote文件, 累心那......

也就是我，费这么大劲研究keynote。要是换了其他的普通用户，人家才不这么动脑子呢。早跑ppt那做去了。既熟悉，又简单。虽然人家ppt长得没keynote好看吧，至少不耽误功夫嘛。
