Team Aced and Dream Poker Tournament

,

The second Dream Team Poker event is over. There were almost 150 teams participating. Team ACED (Aced.com) came out tops and won the first prize of almost $60,000. Team ACED was led by Jamie Gold. Gold was recently signed up by ACED Poker and hence the name. The other team members were Gold’s girlfriend Ashley Nataupsky and Houston Waldie. The best performer in the team was not Gold, but Nataupsky, who finished in fourth. Gold had to settle for ninth place. When Gold was eliminated, Announcer Alex Outhred quipped, “It looks like your girlfriend has outlasted you again, this time in poker.” After the event Gold said, “It’s the most fun you can have without $12 million on the line. My WSOP bracelet is in a vault, but my Dream Team Poker trophy will be on my mantel for all to see.”

Surprisingly the individual honors were taken by relatively unknown players. The big names were conspicuous by their absence. The winner was Danny Nelson who won about $24,000 and in second place was Philip Rousseaux who won about $13,000. The heads up between the two lasted for 45 minutes. The Claddaghs, the team Rousseaux played for, also finished second and took home just over $33,000.

Phil Hellmuth’s team, The Favorites, did not figure in the top five, but the Hellmuth Busters won the fifth place and a prize of $6,660. Michele Lewis was unable to play for personal reasons, but she was rooting for the Yo Mama girls comprising Tiffany Michelle, Lacey Jones and Maria Ho. The girls went down fighting with Maria Ho outlasting her team mates. The Wicked Chops Poker Entities, who normally prefer to criticize from the sidelines, decided to play. They surprised everyone including themselves by making it to the last 27. Michele Lewis summed things up well. She wrote, “…everyone I know who played had nothing but excellent things to say about the tournament. And I’m only jealous I was unable to join the fun.” The dates for Season 3 of the Dream Team Poker are eagerly awaited.

The Bluff Poker Challenge has also ended. Unfortunately it was a one horse race almost from day one. Brian Hawkins, playing as Sno0owman, took an early lead and kept on piling the misery for the rest. He ended up with a tally of over $24,000. The player in second place, Garrett Beckman, could not even muster up $5,000. So Hawkins will feature on the cover of Bluff Magazine. That is why many were hoping that a woman would win the event. Maria Ho would definitely look much better on the cover than Hawkins. But Maria could finish only in sixth place with a measly tally of $286.21.
