Team Pokerstars Pro keeps getting bigger by the minute. They have just signed on the numbers one and two of the WSOP 2008 Main Event - winner Peter Eastgate and runner-up Ivan Demidov. Both Eastgate and Demidov had played in WSOP 2008 under the PokerStars banner. They have just made their relationship permanent. Two others of the November Nine fame had donned the PokerStars signage at WSOP 2008. Later both become members of Team PokerStars Pro. They were Ylon Schwarz and Dennis Phillips. Eastgate and Demidov are both essentially online players who made their mark in online poker before entering live tournaments. Now they are back where they belong. This does not mean that they will give up live tournaments. Both will be playing the European Poker Tour (EPT) San Remo and the EPT Grand Final in Monte Carlo before returning to Vegas for the 2009 WSOP all as members of Team PokerStars Pro.
Of the two Demidov is more ecstatic about joining PokerStars. That is because his idol and inspiration, Alex Kravchenko, is already a PokerStars professional. Demidov said, “I was inspired to do well at this year’s WSOP after watching the success of fellow countryman and Team PokerStars Pro Alex Kravchenko – so to join the team and play alongside him is a real honor.” Till Demidov reached the second place, Kravchenko was the highest ranking Russian in a WSOP Main Event, having bagged the number four spot in the 2007 edition. Demidov acknowledges that it is a great feeling to be a part of such great names. He added that being a part of Team PokerStars Pro will allow him to travel more and play more events.
Eastgate’s profile at PokerStars is all praise for him. It says, “Still only in his early 20’s, Peter is already living the poker dream, achieving more in just a few years than most poker players do in a lifetime. If he never cashes in a tournament again, it wouldn’t even matter. He could retire from the game now and still live off his winnings for the rest of his life. Just don’t put any money on that happening anytime soon.” Though Eastgate is not planning to retire on his winnings he is not prepared to flaunt it about. He said, “I won’t be splashing out on expensive things or living a crazy life now that I’ve won. I’m thinking carefully about how to invest the money so that I make the right decision.” And joining PokerStars is one of them.
One of the legends at PokerStars is Daniel Negreanu. He knows both Eastgate and Demidov and this is what he said about them. “I’ve played against Ivan at the WSOPE and also watched them both closely throughout the WSOP final table – both players represent the young new rising poker talent emerging in Europe and they’re a great addition to the team.” Readers would recall that the WSOP 2008 heads up was the first all European affair.
