First post-alpha snapshot of Opera 10
By Joachim Blaabjerg. Monday, 22. December 2008, 15:22:00
The alpha freeze has lifted and the flood gate of fixes has opened. This snapshot includes tons of fixes since the alpha, but these are the main Mac specific highlights:
Download build 6186
Download build 6186 (Intel only)
Now that we finally have autoupdate, those of you who want every single snapshot release just enable the "Download All Snapshots" setting (opera:config#AutoUpdate) Please be aware that if you do so, you will be upgrading to all snapshots - and as you know: snapshots contain the latest changes, but may also have severe known issues, including crashes and data loss situations. In fact, they may not work at all. You have been warned
We'll be off eating ribbe and drinking akevitt until next year, so merry Christmas, happy new year and a very merry unbirthday to you! (yes, you)
-
Fixed startup crash on Panther
Yes, Opera works on 10.3 again
-
Fixed the mail/chat counter badge background
It should be a little easier on the eyes now.
-
Fixed low framerate on fullscreen YouTube videos
Our frame rate throttling was a little overeager, throttling when it wasn't supposed to.
-
Fixed broken drop-down menus in widgets set to Always on Top
"Always on Top" shouldn't mean "Always on Top of Everything, Including Essential UI Widgets"

I have now a new MacBook and i am a new Mac user, but i am a long Opera user and i use Opera also on the MacBook. And now i will test the new 10er Alpha and parallel to actual Opera 9 installation.
Do you have a tip for me. Or a best practice for this situation?
Thank you
Alexander

@xmenclassic: no worries, it's preconfigured to be run in parallel with your default profile. Just rename the file, install and run it as usual

I am waiting for the upate to apear on Opera 10's update checker

For example:
1) Open http://acid3.acidtests.org
2) Click "A" letter in "Acid3" word
3) Dialog box appears
4) Click "ok" and Opera crashes
The bug was reported by me right after Opera 10 launch. Bug #240811

I don't know whether to file this as a bug as it's more of a feature request than anything (as it's never worked), but in the skinning system you cannot set a hover, pressed, or selected status on any mini icon. For example neither of these would work:
But this replaces the usual 80% smaller icon with a 16x16 icon of my choosing:
Opera 10.0 is amazingly fast. It makes it really hard to use 9.6 at all. You all have done an excellent job.

It's strange. Even though I downloaded the current file (12/29/08) called o100a1_6166.dmg (the Opera 10.00.6166 build--the one that was to fix the 10.3 crashes) from Opera's own http://www.opera.com/browser/next/ webpage, if I use the Finder's "Get Info" command on the unarchived file, it tells me that the build is the "Opera 10.00.5166" instead. Is the .6166 build on Opera's website? Maybe there was a mixup. Thanks.

1. Right click on a image
2. Save Image...
3. Open Finder -or- Path Finder
4. Right click on downloaded image
5. Get info
6. Information show: Open with "Opera" instead of "Preview"
Unable to reproduce this problem with Firefox and Safari. Can somebody confirm?
Why Opera 10 create legacy -creator and -type attributes with all saved images?
RusticCanyon # 3. January 2009, 08:48
However, the Opera 10 download link on http://www.opera.com/browser/next/ doesn't look like it's been updated yet. If you pass your mouse over the download link on that page, it still shows (in your browser's status bar) a file named o100al_6166.dmg (the 6166 build).
When I used that link the last time, I downloaded a file named o100a1_6166.dmg (supposedly the build 6166 file), but in actuality it was the build 5166 file instead. Whatever the case, it wouldn't run on my OS X 10.3.9 Power Mac and as I have a modem, I wasn't looking forward to try another 45 minute download from that link again just to see if it works.
I hope the Opera people update the http://www.opera.com/browser/next/ link to the 6186 build as well. The good news is the 6186 build on this page ("Download build 6186") works great on 10.3.9

Its not possible for me to rename Opera.app before install.
I tried to rename in INFO of the file, but the name is grey and not to edit.
How do you rename this Opera.app?
thanks, Joppe

I tested the new 10 series alpha a while ago and switched completely to it after a few days. Way "snappier" interface (than Safari4/Webkikt's latest), no stability issues whatsoever (latest Leopard). The only thing I'm (desperately) missing atm is keychain integration. That's really a drawback, imho. Any chance we will see keychain support again in the near future?
Keep up the good work!

Here is the problem:
- I am running Opera 9.63 on Mac OS X 10.4.11
- When I try to start Opera, a little window appears that lets me choose "Continue from last time", "Continue with saved session", "Start with home page", "Start with blank page". When I choose any radio button and press the "OK" button, the window stays there, and after a one or two second delay, an eternal, never-ending loading process starts (basically, the mouser pointer turns into the rainbow-colored turning wheel).
- I should say that I have been using Opera for years and this has never happened before. I have not changed anything prior to this new problem.
- The problem seems to be with the mail client. In that first window I mentioned, there is also a "help" button, and when I click that one, I can go into a browsing mode. I don't have access to my mail, though.
- The problem seems to be with two files called omailbase.dat and omailbase.dat-j - they are going crazy when I try to start Opera
I have tried reinstalling Opera, didn't help, now I'm quite at loss what to do next...
Any suggestions?
Thanks a lot,
greetings from Vienna,
Sebastian

anyone else trying Opera 10 beta 3 on their Mac?
Donald Jackson # 15. August 2009, 09:39
Besides the Desktop Team's blog, there's a Mac forum and the beta testing forum. See ya there…

Who knows, this one may temporarily cure me of MOIS (Multiple Opera Installation Syndrome)!? [Two or three isn't really multiple, is it?]
