Thank you Mr. President.

President Obama did an interview with Major Garrett on Wednesday night. This was his first interview with Fox News since July. I was under the impression from Glenn Beck that President Obama had not gone on Fox News since January, and this is incorrect. This of course comes just a few days before Anita Dunn is scheduled to resign. I do have to wonder what Ms. Dunn thought of the interview. Was it just entertainment to her?

I think it was a great interview. It even started with the exchange of holiday wishes. But alas, Huffington reports:

The interview comes after a verbal battle between the White House and FOX News, in which the White House called the network a "wing of the Republican Party." The war of words was not brought up in the interview, which remained civil throughout.

I really would have liked to see that come up in the discussion. But really that is not a priority for the president. It shouldn't be a priority. The priority is the issues that affect this country and it's future. Those issues are far more important than an staffer condemning one particular news network. I am glad President Obama did this interview and I hope to see him and his administration on the network more in the future.

I still like Mike

, , , ...

Governor Mike Huckabee was in Panama City for a book signing on Sunday. He was at the same book store he appeared almost a year ago. I wrote about my experience meeting him then when he was promoting his book "Do the Right Thing". His new book is "A Simple Christmas". I have my copy on order.

I thought about going to the book signing, but it being in the middle of my work week, the energy was just not there. The question of course came up about 2012. He already has the endorsement of a conservative straw poll. However, like a true statesman, he is not speculating on a presidential bid yet.

I hope that Mike Huckabee is the Republican candidate. As an Independent voter, I will not have a vote in the primary. But I think the lesson was learned from McCain. The country is expecting a true conservative from the GOP this time around. Mike Huckabee is that person. In his first book he outlined his principles. His basic ideal is this country would be a better place if everyone did the right thing. He gave an example of this with the criminal justice system. If there was a decrease in crime, that would be less money spent on enforcement, courts and incarceration. That money of course could be used for a better social purpose such as feeding those that go hungry every night.

Yes, I still like Mike. I hope the party likes him too. It would be great to have a signed book from a president.

The Obama effect

, , , ...

Don't blame me, I voted for McCain. As I write this, it is November 3rd. A year ago today, we as a country exercised our spirit of democracy. The result was history. We elected the first black president, a senator with three years experience. G.W. Bush of course was not even on the ballot, but he is eligible for blaming at least a few years. Now that we have almost completed a year of the Obama administration, the country is different. President Obama's campaign pledge was hope and change. Most of us are still waiting for the hope.

It seems there are two camps regarding this administration. First we have the Obama optimists (see also reality challenged) and the Obama pessimists (see also those that comprehend news) These are the two extremes that many Americans are in. There are many people that don't fit into these groups. Some people just prefer to ignore anything political or even watch the evening news. But to be a member of either the optimist or pessimist group can be mentally unhealthy.

The Obama optimists voted on November 3rd and expected miracles on January 20th. They feel the president and government itself can solve all their problems. A good example of this was the thousands of people who stood in Detroit waiting for stimulus money. Please do not try to question the facts presented by this group. They believe we are in an economic recovery even as they sit home without employment. To be a member of this group you of course have to follow the White House closely. That is where your talking points such as condemning Fox News will come from. It is easy to be part of the optimists, just listen to the president and various assorted politicians who claim to have the best interest of the country in mind. They assure us the country will prosper quickly, but only if we vote for their bill of the day. Meanwhile the optimists are not concerned about what is in the 1,000 page bills. They know it is all okay, because they were told it would be. They just go about their day with a smile plastered on their face and the Obama bumper sticker on their cars.

The Obama pessimists, arguably can actually be a worse group. Many of these people, such as myself, voted against Obama more than they did for McCain. A moderate Republican was a better alternative than a liberal Democrat. But this group is all about gloom and doom. Since they lost the election, the country has been collapsing around them. They are more likely to watch cable news and also research stories on the internet. What is being searched for is how each story fits into the Obama master plan. That plan of course is to turn us into a socialist country. The health care reform is just the latest piece to this puzzle. Then back in the dark corner of this group we still have the birthers. Those who just don't trust a birth certificate from Hawaii and are still holding out hope for a disqualification. I say this could be the worse group, because they are predisposed to a tainted view. They can not see any good this president or Congress accomplishes. President Obama could announce tomorrow that pepperoni pizza is an essential party food. This group would immediately investigate what companies are making pepperoni and how much they contributed to the campaign. This group when participating in online discussions, will have a daily list of why they hate President Obama. They will start going down that list, first thing in the morning, not even stopping for a friendly greeting. Yes, they also still have the McCain/Palin stickers on their cars. I actually removed mine so I would have a space for the Fire Congress sticker. You really have to know where the blame is properly placed.

The fact of the situation is there are at least three more years of President Obama. In one year many seats in Congress may change. As citizens we will all survive this administration. With unemployment approaching ten percent, it may not be the most pleasant years. But I encourage people to not look at an issue with a preconceived notion. Keep an open mind and don't assume there is always a hidden agenda. Look at the basis of the current events, research the facts for yourself and then use your own mind to make a conclusion. Know your candidates for 2010 and vote for the future of this country. In as much democracy built this country, it can also ruin it. Make sure you know who you are voting for and why.

So much for details

, , , ...

President Obama finished his speaking tour last night appearing on David Letterman. And of course towards the end of any story on this historic night, the coffee mug. Yes, the mug with the presidential seal upside down. Just a minor detail, or was it? Perhaps there was deeper meaning in this mug? No, not really. It was just a mug and Dave just wasn't that familiar with the seal. Besides, this was the first appearance by an sitting US President on his show. The highlight of the interview was of course this:

When Letterman asked him about former president Jimmy Carter's claim that racism is behind a lot of recent political attacks, Obama deadpanned: "It's important to realize that I was actually black before the election."

A very presidential answer in my opinion. True, he didn't directly answer the question, but as often people do, he made light of a touchy subject. Here is the video for the interview.

The one place President Obama didn't appear was on Fox News. Chris Wallace of course had a few things to say about it. President Obama did however appear on Univision. So why not Fox News? Anyone who has watched the network knows they definitely lean to the right and have been very critical of this administration.
Many speculate it was due to Fox Networks refusal to show his address to Congress a few weeks ago. Of course this didn't stop Glenn Beck from doing an entire hour with Obama. Well sort of, Beck asked the questions and then played back previously taped responses. Even at one point showing a question answered on five different networks in split screen. The answers were are similar, just in different order.

So has Fox News finally done it? They are so far away from the mainstream media that they don't matter? Their goal has always been to report the stories that other networks won't. The ACORN scandal is a prime example of that. But even when all the networks are running the story, they never credit Fox for originally breaking the news. Of course why would they? That would give credibility to the liberals stepchild network. The artists just couldn't create a good logo for "LSN" so it became Fox News. (not true, before Joe Wilson yells at me) But people wonder why Fox News is considered those wacky right conservatives and their crazy conspiracy theories. Well let's suppose if the president would actually make an appearance on the network and dispel the myths and talk straight forward like he has on every other network... Is that really too much to ask? If we truly have a free press, then any network should have the same access to anyone. Until then that motorcade can keep driving right on by.

Did you know there were that many? You probably have heard of the major czar's. But there seems to be many more. Notice #18, Iran Czar, not appointed, that would seem like an important one considering we are at war in that country. #14 Stimulus accountability- not appointed, #10 Mortgage- not appointed, #20 Middle East Peace and #25 Mideast policy those sound kind of redundant. #13 is the Great Lake czar, I had no clue what that is. According to Huffington it is to clean up the Great Lakes, and here I thought that was the EPA's job. Are we going to have a czar for every polluted body of water? Any coincidence that this is near Chicago?

And many of the czar's are controversial. Take for instance #21 Science Czar John Holdren, he has a sort of twisted method of population control.

There exists ample authority under which population growth could be regulated...It has been concluded that compulsory population-control laws, even including laws requiring compulsory abortion, could be sustained under the existing Constitution if the population crisis became sufficiently severe to endanger the society.

Somehow forced abortions and birth control do not seem like the America I live in.

#16 Regulatory Czar, Cass Sunstein seems to be a animal rights wacko.

Sunstein has argued in favor of outlawing sport hunting and meat-eating, and written that animals should be allowed to file lawsuits "with human beings as their representatives."

His nomination was of such a concern that Texas Senator Cornyn has put his nomination on hold. Here are just a few sources that express concern with this czar system:

LA Times
Fox News
American Thinker
Politico

Congressional leaders from both parties are understandably troubled that Obama has installed his czars without the Senate’s advice and consent. They see it as stripping them of their constitutional prerogatives and more ominously as an arrogation of power that could be a prologue to the now-familiar abuses of executive authority that characterized the previous administration Read more: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0709/25129.html#ixzz0M1iGh8Xk

Technically the appointment of that many czar does not violate the Constitution, it does however violate the intent. By appointing this many czars, we have a president that has bypassed the Senate. He has appointed these individuals and they have not been vetted by anyone except himself. President Obama has in effect created his own kingdom. One in which he himself is the king and his many lords answer to his every wish. Is this what our founding fathers had in mind? I seriously doubt it. With just the few examples I have given, the need for actually examining these people's past and ideology seems to be a good idea. You wouldn't hire someone to work the local drive-thru without doing a background check just because someone recommended them to you. We should not be putting this much power in the hands of one individual without that same scrutiny. The average American should be greatly concerned about the power we have vested in these artificially created czars. The fact that we are only 6 months into this administration makes me wonder how many we will have by this time next year. This is not democracy, this is not how America was meant to be.

Getting down to business

, , , ...

Our new president had a busy first day, accomplishing several things on his "to do if I become president" list. I will have to say that I do agree with the $100,000 salary cap. I mean the whole economy would be in shambles if we were to pay these people $101,000. So glad we are cutting back on government salaries. Never mind the point, that this is more than 10 times the poverty level in this country.

And if his lobbyist reform actually takes place, that would end a historical trend. Whats the point of being a lobbyist if you can not benefit for years after you leave the Hill? Some of those people are going to have to find real jobs. Which we all know in this economy could be hard.

And like several presidents before him ( you see a trend here?) he wants peace in Gaza. I am sure his diplomacy will result in a mass surrender of one side. Perhaps we could have a guns for dollars program? They could bring in their weapons and we could pay them in Euros, since the dollar is way undervalued right now.

But of course with the good is always what I view as the bad. As expected one of President Obama's first executive orders is to close down Guantanamo Bay . Within a year these wonderful "detainees" will be free to once again be productive members of society. For instance Omar Khadr (pdf, charges begin on page 4) Inayatullah,al Darbi, and Arale. And these are just a few that I randomly picked after searching the DOD site for Guantanamo. Apparently one of our great states is not ashamed to say what we all feel:

I don't have to want them in Kansas. Closing Guantanamo Bay doesn't mean the prisoners come to the heartland of America. I think we need to find the appropriate place to house those detainees. It's not just where you house them, but the whole issue of treatment.

- Governor Kathleen Sebelius (D)

So just what do you do with 250 alleged terrorists? People that would just as easily strap a bomb to themselves as fold socks? People with no value for human life but only their religious causes? People who believe martyrdom is the greatest reward for the afterlife? Maybe I am just prejudicial, but there only seems one answer. Send them back to their home country. Let their own legal system designate the punishment. They have by supporting terrorism committed international treason.

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court. The Congress shall have power to declare the Punishment of Treason, but no Attainder of Treason shall work Corruption of Blood, or Forfeiture except during the Life of the Person attainted.

US Constitution Article 3 Section 3

Do we really want to chance their punishment to this Congress? From the recent hearings some of them would qualify for cabinet posts. Enjoy the show people.

Just posting the transcript

, , , ...

Here is the link to the president-elects speech transcript. I found it this morning while working. I am back to working night audit two shifts a week. Maybe I will dissect this speech on Monday. Unless I have something better.

Just enjoying the weekend for now. Sunny and cool from the most beautiful beaches in the world.

It begins now

, , , ...

Demise- termination of existence or operation: the demise of the empire.

I woke up this morning and my first comment from a long term reader was critical of last nights post. And I stopped to think, maybe I an not reasonable about this, maybe it won't be so bad, maybe this won't rival the Carter years. But then I did something. I stopped and used the few brain cells I have left. I realized this presidency will be everything the liberal left has hoped for. This is their dream, this is what they have been waiting their entire life for. A socialist in the oval office and they control Congress. And really, if anyone thinks I am not going to be critical of this presidency for the next thousand days, they are mistaken.

Here is the voting record for our current president. Notice all the "NV". These are all the times he did not vote. And 130 times he voted present. 130 times he refused to take a position. 130 times he would not go on record for or against. This link helped me understand

Obama's record in Illinois represents that of a pragmatic progressive, who pushed for moderate reforms and opposed right-wing legislation. In the IL legislature, voting "present" is the equivalent of voting "no" because a majority of "yes" votes are required for passage. Many IL legislators use the "present" vote as an evasion on an unpopular choice, so that they can avoid being targeted for voting "no." During the 2004 Democratic primary, an opponent mocked Obama's "present" vote on abortion bills with flyers portraying a rubber duck and the words, "He ducked!". In 1997, Obama voted against SB 230, which would have turned doctors into felons by banning so-called partial-birth abortion, & against a 2000 bill banning state funding. Although these bills included an exception to save the life of the mother, they didn't include anything about abortions necessary to protect the health of the mother. The legislation defined a fetus as a person, & could have criminalized virtually all abortion. Source: The Improbable Quest, by John K. Wilson, p.147-148 Oct 30, 2007

The good news is as president he can let congress be the one on record and he can just let a bill set on his desk and avoid signing it.

He voted no on The Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act. So in his mind it is okay to transport pregnant minors across state lines. Note this section :

Makes it a crime to knowingly transport a minor across state lines to get an abortion after committing incest with a minor (Sec 2432)

Our current president voted against this bill with this provision in it.

He did not vote on this FHA bill

-Establishes the Federal Housing Finance Agency, with regulatory authority over Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, the Federal Home Loan Banks, and the Office of Finance (Sec. 1101).

This bill was passed in June 2008. And we all know the outcome of Fannie and Freddie. The billions that have been spent to bailout the greedy sub prime lenders. Why did our current president not vote on this bill? Can he not make the decision or was he afraid of hurting his campaign?

He did not vote on this Homeland Security bill.

Establishes the Urban Area Security Initiative to provide grants to assist high-risk urban areas in "preventing, preparing for, protecting against, and responding to acts of terrorism," and authorizes $5.3 billion to be appropriated through fiscal year 2012 [Title I (Sec. 101)].

He had no position on protecting our cities. Our cities will be where the war on terrorism is fought. It has been 7 years since 9/11 but we can not become complacent and think it will not happen again.

These are just three examples of our current presidents voting record. I have chosen the ones that I question. There are others he voted for that I agree with. But overall I can not see anything positive in the next four years. The Democrats have their dream, it will be conservative America's nightmare. He is not my president.

A sad day for our country.

, , , ...

It is over. I concede. McCain has lost, as have we all. At this moment I am sick, I am ready to vomit on my screen. I am not going to place blame, I am not going to whine like the Gore campaign did.

Obama has won with twice as many electoral votes as McCain. Why? I have no idea. I could yell and scream, I could call names. But why bother? It will not change anything.

I am not going to pray for a miracle and a recount. I can only question why the delusional voters have foresaken their country.

It is over, welcome to the depression. Welcome to the change you never saw in your worse nightmare.

The state of things

, ,

So tonight was President Bush's last state of the union adress. Like thousands of citizens I suppose, I did not watch it. I just caught the highlight on the news. Not too much mention of the war and a lot of mention of economic stimulus.

That is nice of him in the last year to focus on domestic issues. He has obviously determined that his foreign policy will not get him any approval points, so there you go. Of course it is a lot easier to pass out tax rebates than it is to liberate an entire country.

Stores gives rebates when you buy something. It is a way to make the item look more affordable. You pay say $200 and then you mail in a $20 rebate which arrives in the mail in the next few months. So really the item cost you $180 which was probably its true cost anyways.

If Bush's plan passes the tax rates will decrease and you will receive a rebate for the previous year. This is how I understand it, the details have not been explained yet. I have completed my tax return and as usual am getting a nice refund. The rebate would be like a second refund in the spring. Part of that is going to new tires on my car. I have a nice low profile performance series already selected.

The average couple will get $1,200. That will buy a nice LCD television. The majority of people will probably use this rebate check to buy something nice. Considering the economic situation though, it would be better spent paying off debt. But this country has always been addicted to credit. Personally, my first credit card was 20 years ago. I have always paid on time but the balance tends to get out of control sometime. This year thanks to my wife's bonus check, most of our credit cards will be paid off. It will be nice to have fewer bills and more money for savings.

So I will commend President Bush for this plan. It is one of the few things he has done in the last 4 years that will boost his approval. As I posted before about the pack of razors, this will be the last blade in the package. He will be remembered for the first and last and not really much in between.

As for the foreign situation, if gas stays around $3.00 a gallon, something has been accomplished. I remember when the war started predictions were for $5 or even $10 a gallon. The price of crude oil has actually fell since the moron who made one purchase at $100 a barrel. But it is like water, it is a need. No matter what the price, you buy it. While the war may stabilize oil prices, so will improved relations with OPEC. And of course maybe loosening restriction on domestic exploration would be a good thing too.

January 20th, 2009 is less than a year away. I think we will all make it , and a nice check will make it easier. By the way, the picture was from 2003.

2008 will be here soon

, , , ...

Monday and Tuesday are what I consider my half days off. I only work one job and that is not until 11 at night. So I was bored both days and went malling. Just window shopping seeing what I need. And of course I find the countdown to January 20, 2009 calendars. What a great idea and I just had to buy the wall one and the desktop edition.

Yes, President Bush will be out of office. I never thought I would be celebrating this, but why not? What exactly has G.W. done for this country in his last 8 years? He of course will be remembered for the Iraq war and hopefully not the Iran war that may happen in the next few months. His presidency will be like a pack of razor blades. You remember the first and last ones you use to shave but not really much in the middle.

Some may say the Democrat controlled Congress is to blame. Things were going much better when the Republicans held control. This is always the case when the President and Congress are the same party. More things get done, problems resolved, you know that silly political stuff. But a good president would rise above the Democrats attacks and get back to the basics. I have not seen this in Mr Bush.

He has let Congress control him like a really bad prom date. Except there is no dinner and the power went out on the dance. There was the one great night that Harry Reid almost stayed up all night for the sleep in. I still have nightmares about Senator Reid in pajamas. I am sure George slept soundly that night with dreams of budget reductions dancing in his head.

So adios Mr Bush, hopefully before you do something really stupid with immigration as well. How many border patrol agents are in jail right now? How much of the wall has been built? Has I.C.E. raided even 10 percent of the business that still knowingly employ illegals?

For all we know the next president in may be worse. But its a chance you got to take. It surely can not be much worse than what we have seen for the last 8 years.
