We all have a great number of demands on our time, and most often if we want to learn a new profession, getting educated alongside a job is what we're faced with. Certified training from Microsoft could offer a solution. You might like to talk about career options with an industry expert - and if you're not sure, then have some guidance on whereabouts in industry would work for you, dependent on your personality. Training should be tailored to match your current skills and aptitude. Hence, after working out the most appropriate area of work for you, your next requirement is the most applicable training course that will get you into that job.

So, what are the questions we should be asking to take onboard the understanding we need? Because it's evident there are some pretty incomparable prospects for us all to investigate.

Far too many companies only look at the plaque to hang on your wall, and forget the reasons for getting there - which is of course employment. You should always begin with the final destination in mind - too many people focus on the journey. Never let yourself become one of the unfortunate masses that choose a course that seems 'fun' or 'interesting' - and get to the final hurdle of an accreditation for a career they'll never really get any satisfaction from.

Never let your focus stray from where you want to go, and build your study action-plan from that - not the other way round. Stay focused on the end-goal and ensure that you're training for something that will keep you happy for many years. It's worth seeking guidance from an advisor who can best explain the industry you've chosen, and who can offer 'A typical day in the life of' synopsis of the job being considered. These things are essential as you'll need to fully understand if this change is right for you.

We need to make this very clear: You absolutely must have proper 24x7 professional support from mentors and instructors. We can tell you that you'll strongly regret it if you don't. Be wary of any training providers that use 'out-of-hours' call-centres - with the call-back coming in during typical office hours. This is no use if you're stuck and need help now.

We recommend looking for training programs that incorporate three or four individual support centres across multiple time-zones. Each one should be integrated to enable simple one-stop access and also 24x7 access, when you need it, without any problems. If you opt for less than 24x7 support, you'll quickly find yourself regretting it. You might not want to use the service late at night, but you may need weekends, early mornings or even late evenings at some point.

Many trainers provide piles of reference manuals and workbooks. It's not a very interesting way to learn and not ideal for studying effectively. If we can utilise all of our senses into our learning, our results will often be quite spectacular.

Learning is now available on CD and DVD discs, so you can study at your own computer. Video streaming means you are able to see your instructors showing you how it's all done, and then practice yourself - via the interactive virtual lab's. You'll definitely want a training material demonstration from your training provider. The materials should incorporate expert-led demonstrations, slideshows and interactive labs where you get to practice.

Some companies only have access to just online versions of their training packages; and while this is acceptable much of the time, think what will happen if your access to the internet is broken or you get slow speeds and down-time etc. It is usually safer to have DVD or CD discs which will solve that problem.

A major candidate for the biggest issue to be got round for IT students is usually having to turn up to 'In Centre' days or workshops. Many training academies wax lyrical on the 'benefits' of going in to their classes, usually though, they end up as a major problem because of:

* Constant visits to the workshops - normally hundreds of miles.

* Weekday only availability with events is the norm, and getting two to three days out of work can be difficult for many working people.

* Holiday days lost - a lot of trainees only get 4 weeks annual leave. If you give up at least half to your study days, that isn't going to leave much vacation time for students and their families.

* Because of the cost involved, a lot of companies have to put on larger classes - not ideal (and with less one-on-one time).

* Tension is sometimes created in classes because different students want to work at different paces.

* Rising travel prices - travelling backwards and forwards to the training centre and of course accommodation can start to get expensive over several visits. Assuming just five to ten classes at a cost of 35 pounds for one over-night room, plus forty pounds for petrol and food at 15.00, we find an extra 450-900 pounds of hidden costs that we now have to fund.

* Many attendees want their studies to remain private thus avoiding all questions at work.

* Asking questions in a class full of students can make any one of us feel nervous. Would you admit that you've occasionally avoided posing a question just because you didn't want to look foolish?

* Where students have to on occasion live away for part of the week, imagine the trouble involved in travelling to the requisite days in-centre, as time is now more scarce than ever.

A more flexible training route is to use videoed lessons at home, in comfort - taking them when it's convenient to you - not some other person. Imagine... If you have a notebook PC then you're free to work in the garden, a park, or just outside. And 24x7 support is only a web-browser click away when challenges strike you. It really doesn't matter how often you would like to re-take a quiz or test, filmed instructors can never get frustrated with you! And don't forget, because of this, you can forget taking notes. Everything is already there for you when you need it. While it's impossible to stop each and every issue, it certainly removes stress and makes things simpler. You also have reduced costs, travel and hassle.

Often, folks don't catch on to what information technology is all about. It is electrifying, revolutionary, and means you're a part of the huge progress of technology affecting everyones lives in the 21st century. We're only just starting to get to grips with how all this change will affect us. The way we interact with the world will be inordinately affected by technology and the internet.

A standard IT technician throughout Britain can demonstrate that they earn noticeably more money than equivalent professionals in much of the rest of the economy. Average incomes are amongst the highest in the country. Because the IT market sector is still developing year on year, one can predict that the need for certified IT professionals will continue actively for decades to come.
