My Opera Mail Team

Mail Update

So, one month and you may ask what kept us busy? Well, the early users noted a number of smaller and bigger bugs (some couldn't even log in) that we've taken care of, one by one. We've also added a few more features, like the autocomplete against your contact list in the Search field and we're working on bigger tasks like making the entire interface localized, including on mobile browsers.

One of my favorite new tricks is the search shortcut for pinned messages, just type PINNED in the search field to get threads where messages in the current folder are pinned. Oh, and the only shortcut that isn't visible as a tooltip anywhere: g. Type g followed by arc, then press Enter to select the Archive folder without using your mouse. Pretty efficient.

Anyway, some of the questions we have seen or thought we would see about Mail with some answers that may or may not change as we get even more feedback angel

Where are the settings?

Ah, they just arrived, didn't they? There is a new Settings link next to the Log out link in the upper right corner of mail.opera.com. For now it's mostly a teaser of what's to come, since settings aren't stored across browser sessions. What you see is beta development in practice.

What is the storage size?

We start with 1GB and it will grow (significantly) over time, we'll share the exact details here later (hey, we need some reason for you to come back!).

Is it available in Noldorin yet?

We intend to localize My Opera Mail to at least the same languages as My Opera itself.

Do I need to rename my account?

Some users will be invited to rename their account before starting to use My Opera Mail, in particular those containing a '.' or a '_'. This is to ensure forwards compatibility with other uses of the login.

Why are my messages hot pink?

Congratulations, you're special! When viewing a conversation, the color of the headers depends on the address of the sender so you can easily distinguish senders in a long thread. You just happen to be pink.

Why am I redirected to the page for renaming my account when that page says my user name is fine?

We've had a few cases where the validity checking between our various systems hasn't been entirely synchronized. We're fixing these one by one, but if you still such issues, feel free to post a complaint below and we'll look into it again.

Where are the folders?

Coming...

Can I have a secret address at @myopera.com that isn't also my account name?

At least not for now, but it's a popular request, we'll consider alternatives. One workaround that already exists is to add another term to your address, like borg+Whatever@myopera.com which will be automatically filed to my Whatever folder as soon as we get around to implementing that folder management doh

Can I import mail from other accounts?

Currently you'll need to use an IMAP client and copy over mail there.

Will My Opera Mail be merged with My Opera Messages?

Yes. When it's ready.

Why do I need another e-mail address to get an e-mail address? What if I don't have one?

We'll fix that soon by allowing you to use a mobile phone number as fallback address for validation and password reminders via SMS.

Can I remove the butterfly?

The top line of the theme will be updated from time to time, but it's only spring in Oslo so you'll have to live with it for a while longer.

Can I change my signature?

Almost! See the note about settings not fully functional yet.

Welcome to My Opera Mail BetaSome of the new stuff

Thank You, Me (sbekius).
I will try this.

Or you could just keep the first account and use it strictly for responses (forums, blogs) and create the second account to be used strictly for email (and NOT for forums, etc.). That way the latter (your email address) will have some degree of privacy by not being used so publicly.

Hei Mình,

It's a bug, the value should update when you change your My Opera preferences, but apparently doesn't. We'll fix.

No, we don't sync contacts yet but when we do I expect us to sync pinned/followed contacts as well.

opera mail: Remember this is a work in progress and we still have lots of cool features to add!

HOW LONG ????????

Cutting Spoonhellspork Monday, February 13, 2012 2:57:31 AM

When I created a MyOpera mail IMAP access in one of my test installs, it recovered contact data from the messages on the server. Am I to understand that M2 now adds all recipients in the IMAP "Sent" folder to its contacts list? Normally I import contacts first, so this was the first time I noticed such behavior...
