My Opera Mail Team

Some of the new stuff

There have been several changes to My Opera Mail over the last few weeks, some of which you may have seen and tried already, some which are more under the hood and some which you can't even try - yet!

One very useful but somewhat hidden addition is push notifications of new messages. If you keep your Inbox open, new messages will arrive without the need to manually refresh the page.

Another not so visible addition is improvements to localization: We are now able to not only translate the desktop AJAX interface to different languages, but also the mobile version for Opera Mini users. Few languages are translated at this point, but if you speak Hungarian you can go into your settings screen and try it out! When you visit mail.opera.com for the first time we will detect the language choice of your browser (HTTP Accept-Language) and set your initial preference based on that.

The settings to add and rename folders has been there for a while, but unlike the early days, now you can actually (well, mostly, rearranging folders is under development) use it too smile

Then we will soon have a new feature that is mobile-only for now, but on the way also to desktop (you can play with the preferences screen for it already), the ability to fetch other POP3 mailboxes into your My Opera Mail account and get all your mail in one place. It's really easy to use, just enter your other e-mail address and your password and we will do our best to sort out the rest. Just be aware that if your other Inbox is very big this will take some time.. We intend to improve upon this by only fetching the last 100 messages or so the first time you connect.

And about the mobile version: We have updated the user interface quite a few places and we feel it has become quite solid. Did I mention you should get Opera Mini and try it out there? whistle

I LOVE THIS:up:

Only one message?! Don't you use My Opera Mail yourself?

Also, "1-1 of 1" looks funny, don't you think? wink

In settings I see that you "attached" my primary email, which I entered when I was registering at My Opera. And I don't see any "remove" button... Are you going to fetch all messages from there?! yikes

Also, sending a message from that address does not work yet, right?

Kind of a feature request: when I have a folder "test", and reply to message sent to username+test@myopera.com, I can send reply from username+test@myopera.com, and that's great. But it would be even greater if by hitting the "compose" button I could write a message from username+test@myopera.com, too!

Oh, yeah: thanks for a good job! up

I'm a heavy user of the Archive button p

In fact, I read (and write) all my work mail on mail.opera.com, that's well over 100 messages per day. We believe in using our own systems!

No, that's not really an account, just the ability to send mail from the backup address you have registered here at My Opera. You can even set it to send from that account by default.

Mağruf ÇolakoğluZAHEK Thursday, September 8, 2011 12:57:53 PM

Sorry, the mail.opera.com does not work now??

Johan Borgborg Thursday, September 8, 2011 1:11:49 PM

Any particular problem?

Yes, the page always trying to load page and shown "Loading" here...I tried with Opera, Chrome and others.

Johan Borgborg Thursday, September 8, 2011 1:31:40 PM

Strange sherlock Send me a mail (if you can, that is) if it continues, it definitely works here.

Mağruf ÇolakoğluZAHEK Thursday, September 8, 2011 1:48:54 PM

I've sent e-mail and PM as well...

I've changed this address some time ago in my profile to a new address. In Myopera Mail it's still the 'old' address. confused

With this feature MyOpera Mail will be my main account. I LOVE YOU cheers
The email check will be automatic (as in Hotmail) or manual (as Yahoo)? If the email check will be automatic, we might choose the time between email checks?

We may send emails as other account? example: i send an email using MYOPERA mail, but it will appear as sent via my yahoo account?

[sorry for my english]

Tiago Wakabayashiozoratsubasa Thursday, September 8, 2011 4:39:09 PM

A problem: the Address and Edit Contacts buttons (Email, Import/Export // Save Contact, Save Contact and Create New and Delete Contact) I click on them and nothing happens. Can check that?

obs: when will have the portuguese language?

Sounds like the address is stored two places and that one is out of sync, not good. Will check!

The email check will be both automatic (more often while you're logged in) and manual (refresh button of the associated folder), but right now it's just automatic.

And yes, if you reply to a message from your yahoo account it will be sent out with that address.

Replying.
But a new email can be sent with another address? like in YMail o Gmail where on a new message you can choose the address to use for send the email.

Johan Borgborg Thursday, September 8, 2011 5:43:57 PM

@Enrico89, Yes there's a dropdown to choose sender address in the compose screen.

EnricoEnrico89 Thursday, September 8, 2011 6:09:02 PM

Thanks. Now i only need to create a time machine to go in 2012 and test all these fantastic features bigsmile

Johan Borgborg Thursday, September 8, 2011 6:30:02 PM

Hehe, I already got my first Christmas presents, so new year doesn't sound far off.

In other words, two of my pet features were rolled out on our test server today, full of bugs, but full of promise party

I'm also getting this problem, and the address is being displayed as /mail instead of /m

http://files.myopera.com/nimeshthakkar/albums/6780452/2011-09-09_01-44.png

happening on Opera 12 (1060 build)
--------
Checked On Opera 11.5:
-URL is still /mail
-buttons are working
-buttons also get highlighted (not on Opera 12)

No cancel button on import/export screen or Create/Edit screen sad

Johan Borgborg Thursday, September 8, 2011 9:08:55 PM

OK, I'll blame Opera 12 for now, then whistle Thanks for reporting!

(edit: URL for contacts is under /mail/ for now, will change when we introduce new AJAX contacts screen)

This is quickly becoming....AWESOME.

I should pick-around a bit and file some feedback on mail attachments. Where would be the appropriate place to submit that information?

Is it a problem that you're allowed to answer e-mails from the address you have set up as recovery address for My Opera? You don't have to use it if you don't want to, obviously?

Alexeyalex-shpak Saturday, September 10, 2011 5:59:38 PM

Johan, do you remember a story of one guy who didn't use "Desktop" folder and decided to delete it? ;-)

Other services, which allow you to send email "from" another address, usually have one "undeletable" entry, like username@servicename.com. And my opera mail has two "undeletable" entries instead of one - that's not a bug, but a feature, since in order to obtain this email, you have to have another email addres in first place wink

p.s. when viewing from Opera Mini, even in "full mode", I don't have a "Settings" button. Is it okay?

p.p.s. could you please enable domain www.mail.opera.com (at least, make it redirect to mail.opera.com) to ease address typing at Opera mini?

Johan Borgborg Saturday, September 10, 2011 8:09:24 PM

The settings button is there alright, it just hasn't been rolled out on the live system yet angel

corrba Sunday, September 11, 2011 12:04:54 PM

Why when I use my opera mail on linux, I can't see all settings which I can see on windows? I mean accounts?

Can you change that way for another?

belter Monday, September 12, 2011 8:42:16 AM

Maybe not the best place to ask this question - but: do you plan to make myopera mail compatible with the DSi browser - currently all that it does is to display the word: Loading ...

Tiago Wakabayashiozoratsubasa Monday, September 12, 2011 7:10:29 PM

Thx @Borg, well I hope that next build the problem finishes smile

plz tell me which antivirus is used in my opera mail and when will b MOM final build released

Liking the new email service so far, very clean and fast. Only one question - any chance of getting pop3 functionality at some point? Surely I can't be the only non-IMAP-fan here? left right love

KerenSkyy Thursday, September 15, 2011 1:39:46 AM

i guess thiss is a browser bug, but on latest opera 12 alpha snapshot myopera mail just is stuck on the loading screen indefinitely.
Cheers beer

  • Themes and color. Because I love customize everything I use.
  • Rich Text Format to compose mails. Sometimes you need write something in another color and add images

Thank you for you attention and you great work

Nice improvements arrived -
- mail drag and drop (don't know if this was available before)
- mail filters (All, Unread...)

Special effect while dragging the mail

Found a bug: Do a search via the search box. Select (all) found emails and move them to another folder. The drag and drop will stuck. bug
Update: It's not just drag & drop. Also via the Move button it doesn't.

Confirmed. The individual mail items cannot be deselected, the folder cannot be switched
It's like frozen

Please check the mobile interface in IE9 Mobile (for Windows Phone 7.5). It works reasonably well, but the message subject is hanging outside the right screen edge...

Agreed !

And it would be nice to be able either to send "as" (using something similar to FastMail's "personalities") or send "through" using another of my account's servers. (The latter cannot presently be done if the login username is different from the email address, i.e. where one is using an alias at another account).

Tiago Wakabayashiozoratsubasa Wednesday, September 28, 2011 7:59:06 PM

- The "contacts" tab in Opera Mail, I still cannot use buttons like "Add New" and others, even using the new and last Opera Next build
