Hush! It's a secret!
By Johan Borgborg. Tuesday, December 6, 2011 5:32:04 PM
Since this summer we have been running an XMPP server for @myopera.com users. What this means is that you can fire up your favorite XMPP/Jabber client (I usually run Adium or Pandion) and enter your My Opera Mail address and password and start chatting.
We believe in openness, so our servers accept messages from any other XMPP server. Unfortunately, that isn't the case for all services out there yet, so you might still need multiple accounts to chat with all your friends
PS
Don't tell anyone!

Yes, you just invite other people/usernames you know on My Opera - or on other sites that support open XMPP. We haven't integrated with the My Opera friends list yet, and it isn't perfect for this either since some of your chat friends may be on other servers anyway..

I used mossman@myopera.com as user and my MyOpera password as pass in Trillian for Android... but no connection.
I checked the settings and it says it's using myopera.com as server and port 5222. There is an option for "legacy SSL" - which makes no difference. The only other option is "use custom resource name"... whatever that means.

dig +short -t SRV _xmpp-server._tcp.myopera.com
Resource name can be safely ignored or set to something that describes your device, like "Laptop", "Work", "Phone". It will be visible to other users who can see where you are online.

Not that I have any contacts to chat with...

Since I'm using Trillian on Android - and Trillian uses a central server to manage settings over multiple devices - that's not really going to work for me. I think it's actually the Trillian server which makes all the connections, then that serves messages to the client in Android (à la Opera Mini). For non-mobiles I think the connections are direct, but the settings are still all synchronised with the Trillian server (à la Opera Link).

I am seeing a problem, when I am connected my friend doesn't see me online unless I force it by "send presence - online" from the message window.
That doesn't happen on Gtalk, and the protocol and the plugin are exactly the same.
I tried both SSL connection as "Secure XMPP - old style" and "Secure XMPP network", with and without setting host as "chat.myopera.com".
No difference.
I have found this on wiki:
"Miranda menu -> Options -> Network (in tree) -> Jabber (sub-item) -> Account (tab):
* Username: Your username, e.g. 'brong'
* Resource: Whatever you want, it's a "location" thing. So "Home", "Work", "Laptop" - whatever.
* Login server: Your domain, e.g. 'fastmail.fm'
* Use SSL: Checked
Expert
* Manually specify connection host:
* Host: chat.messagingengine.com
* Port: 5223"
- The "resource" field doesn't exist in current Miranda-Jabber settings.
- Login server, I have used "chat.myopera.com".
- Setting SSL means port automatically becomes 5223.
