"En Agosto de 2009 Los Simuladores le ayudan a obtener un puesto como Oficial de Operaciones Aereas en el CEO de Mexicana de Aviación"

La dificultad del CEO

I remember a night, when working at SEAT, and while I was attending an incoming flight, a supervisor of mine showed me a magazine that pax left... this is the cover of the magazine, in english it says something like "The difficulty of CEO"...

I know that magazine refered to Chief Executive Officer, but here, in aviation and in Spanish, CEO refers also to another figure: El Centro Estratégico Operacional ( Operational Strategical Centre )

I remember when I was at SEAT, we used to blame CEO because of the bad planning of flight ( and with this: delays in ETD (Estimated Time of Departure) and when my supervisor showed me that cover I took the picture in order to reprint it and post it as a kind of local joke...

... if someone had told me that two months after I took this pic I'd be hired by Mexicana de Aviación for working at CEO i wouldn't believe that...

Today I was chatting with my friend Barbara and I was showing her some pics of my office when I realized I haven't posted anything about my new job.

CEO is divided, among other departments, into:

- Flight Planning (where dispatchers plans the route of every flight around the country and internationally)
- Crew Assignment (in which it is assigned every pilot, copilot and flight assistants for every flight, including the personnel in reserve)
- Equipment Assignment (along with crew, every flight is assigned with an airplane according to the necessities of the operation... an Airbus 318 if there is less than 100 Passengers pre-booked for that flight.... an Airbus 320 with powerful CFM Engines if there are more than 140 passengers booked and lots of cargo (like 3 or 4 tons) for that operation)
- Flight Watching (every flight is followed in a chart in order to check and change itineraries if there's a delay in any flight of the day)
- Weight and Balance... this is where I am...

What do we do in weight and balance? ok... let me put this into an image I've considered as the best for explaining:

Imagine an airplane as a huge seesaw... with the wings as rotation center; every weight into the airplane: Crew, Food, Passengers, Potable Water, Fuel, Baggages, Mail, Cargo, everything that may go inside the plane must be located in different positions in order to assure the Gravity Center is not misplaced outside the area of the wings, so you must balance all that weight in order to avoid the plane flies with all the weight on the nose area or on the tail are... but as balanced as possible...

... that's my job: using a software named Amadeus I have to create a Load Information Report in which it's reported to personnel in ground how many pieces of baggage or cargo are required in every bin. The difficult resides in: in the very moment I'm attending a flight with route LAP-LMM (La Paz, Baja California - Los Mochis, Sinaloa) via Movistar cellphone, I'm attending via Amadeus Messenger to the personnel from the flight LGW - MEX (London Gatwick Aiport - Mexico Intl. Airport) and via Nextel a flight ORD - GDL (Chicago O'Hare Intl. Airport - Guadalajara ) and all of them are requesting information of their own flights at the same time... it's some times very stressing.

Even though i really miss being at the ramp... I like my job, it's very interesting and... there's another via to practice my english skills while I'm dispatching flights from Canada and United States...

I'll be telling you more of this next post... because in this moment im falling asleep.

Feeling Bad... Feeling Good

Someday I was told that having a nightstroll in car is a good recipie for depression and Badvibes...

... it partially worked.

New Job, New Arrangements...

,

This has been my first week as, virtually, part of Mexicana de Aviación staff, but being part of this is not only a matter of signing a contract... one must be prepared for this new adventure... and Mexicana do their part scheduling some courses which must be taken and passed in order to get the next contract.

This week the date was at Alas de América, the one that used to be one of the biggest and most important schools of Civil Aviation in LatinAmerica ... Now a days THEY SAY it is the Escuela de Aviación México

(if you're interested, the Biggest and more important was the CIAAC, Centro Intenacional de Adiestramiento en Aviación Civil, it was the best, one as a Pilot used to obtain the training on a Cessna 500... AND ALL OF THIS FOR FREE!!! Because it was administrated by the Federal Goverment and the ICAO, but you know, power change of hands... and the CIAAC dissapeared to remain only for training of Air Controllers)

But turning back to this post, Alas de América is getting now into the good days by starting again with the courses... and I must say that the installations are quite impressive, they have very clean classrooms, all of them with Air Conditioning, room for no more than 16 students, Overhead Proyector, and some of them with computers used for the trainnings such as the new software that will be used for the Flight Dispatching, Booking, Ticket Sales, etc...

... this new software is a little marvel named AMADEUS

This week began with the training on this software, with sessions of 9 hrs daily for 4 days, it was the hell of tiring, but believe me that this was totally different from the one we had been using in SEAT, named DPLAN, because the new one offers a totally graphical and user-friendly environment for the Load and Balance issues, along with some other wonders such as a complete comunication among the Tickets Office, the Passengers Traffic lounges, Gates and also even with Travel Agencies in order to considerate the weight of a Passenger, with their Baggages even since the were barely booked in a Travel Agency...

(and I said "had been using..." because Amadeus will be used by also SEAT)

Yesterday and Today I had the first of several courses refering to the Performances of all the Airplanes used by the company, the first one was Boeing 717-200, in this courses we learn to analize the Manuals of all the equipments, how to dispatch them when we don't have a computer near (it means: Manual Dispatch) and all the Limitations the airplanes have.

The next Performances I'll have to study will be:

Boeing family: (B717, B727, B757 and B767)
Airbus family: (A318, A319, A320 and A330)
Fokker 100
Bombardier CRJ 200

So, let's see how it goes the next weeks, I'll be telling you

Thank you SEAT, I learnt a lot from you.

Phone Call

,

The following is the transcription, as I remembered how it happened, of a phone call...

- " Recursos Humanos, Buenas tardes"
- " Así es "
- " ¿Qué? ¿No te llamaron? "
- " NO INVENTES! Te estamos esperando desde la mañana para que nos traigas tus papeles... ¡Fuiste Aceptado! Tráemelos el Lunes saliendo de tu curso en Alas de América "

:S

Good girl... How could you choosed someone that boring as your Godfather?

Rainy Work

Being at the platforms of MMMX has been one of the biggest experiencie I have had in my life... eventhough the freezing days of winter... sunny and and hot days on spring and the rainy days of this summer...

Yesterday I was at the Northern Platforms... where there's no place to shelter from rain (until the airplane gets to ground, we cover under the wings ) ... my Workers Group and me suffered from the 1 and a half hours of constant rain...

.. but you know something? I wouldn't change this work for an office one... I LOVE THIS!

,

When was the last time you played Bowling inside the Boarding Bridge at the airport...

Me? Just tonight... while attending the Caracas fligth

Chale...
