Review: The Stars Shine Down. Sidney Sheldon

, ,

Lara Cameron as a girl lived with her apathetic dad who didn’t seem to see any good in her and treated her like scum yet she clung to him desperately seeking his fatherly affection which never materialized even unto his eventual demise. Lara as a young adult meets a man who is fascinated by her ability to satisfy his peculiar request for “kosher” food. This man introduces her to the world of real estate business and she immediately falls in love with the idea.

Lara achieves success in her first enterprise and quickly rises from being an obscure country girl to a celebrated name in the corporate world. Beautiful and powerful she rapidly acquires many assets with her smarts and ruthless business mentality which earns her the nickname Iron Butterfly. This endears her to many yet she remains an enigma as no one is able to figure her out. At the acme of her career, Lara still feels something is missing in her life at which time she finds the man of her dreams and they get married.

All appear to be going just fine when suddenly, her business empire begin to crumble. It appears the “fates” are against her. Will she survive the threat of negative publicity of the press? Will her marriage survive? Who is behind the many mishaps befalling her?

I thoroughly enjoyed the novel. Sydney Sheldon adeptly utilized flashback to tell the story thus placing it in a beautiful perspective. The plot is filled with many twists and turns that will keep one guessing what will happen next till the plot is unraveled at the end of the novel.

Lara Cameron as a character is easy to fall in love with as she comes across as one who is passionately dedicated to her work yet genuinely cares for her staff. Sydney Sheldon does a good job with the narration as the reader is easily pulled into the plot and feels the tension and the pains Lara faces as she takes many far-reaching decisions which often seem to be to the detriment of her business. This makes the story believable as it is a good depiction of what often pertains in real life. The story progresses lucidly and gets even more shocking as the story unravels.

If you come across this book, do well to read it.
