MMA Benefits From Unique Fighting Styles

Combat sports have been a staple of many cultures throughout the world. Different regions of the world place an emphasis on traditional fighting styles, and MMA fighters adopt these styles to craft their own fighting techniques. This is what makes MMA so interesting. Boxing, while a full contact sport, limits fighters to a couple of distinct ways of fighting. In contrast, MMA allows fighters to pull from traditional fighting practices while infusing unique characteristics of their own. MMA allows fighters from all over the world to showcase their individual skills for everyone to see.

The choice of fighting style is often dictated by the way a fighter was raised. However, today’s MMA fighters, particularly those who participate in the UFC, use a combination of fighting styles to be effective. This is a necessity because adaptability is a critical component to being successful inside the ring. If you only specialize in grappling and take down submissions, for example, then you will have trouble defeating a fighter who specializes in a stand up boxing style. The fact that MMA allows fighters to use both hands and feet for defensive and offensive maneuvers is what sets it apart from all other combat sports.

Boxing is one of the mainstays of the UFC and other MMA platforms. People began boxing as early as 675 BC in greece. All MMA fighters have some degree of boxing knowledge, as it is an integral part of the sport. The drawback to solely focusing on boxing as a main attack strategy is that it leaves your torso open for kicks and take downs. It is effective for striking opponents when they least expect it, however, and it is a great style to use when your opponent is tired and primed to be defeated from a barrage of boxing combinations.

Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is another common fighting form found within the different levels of MMA. This type of fighting style was developed by Mitsuyo Maeda in the early 20th century. When people consider Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, they often mistakenly believe that it is centered around kicks and strikes. In actuality, fighters use this technique as an effective ground game. This means that it is widely considered a great way to submit an opponent through any number of holds and and joint locks to the extremities. this style is considered to be very effective when one fighter exhibits a much larger size than another. Submissions and holds do not take nearly as much strength as one might imagine.

Muay Thai is another common technique which fighters use quite effectively. This is a style of kickboxing which focuses on strikes and defensive posturing. Many fighters use Muay Thai because it focuses on something called clenching. Clenching allows a fighter to subdue an opponent while landing elbow or knee strikes. Many UFC fighters have experienced great success in both stand-up and ground game approaches.

There are, of course, many other fighting practices which fighters use throughout the world. One of the keys to all of the available fighting techniques is dexterity and flexibility. All fighters train to keep their bodies in top shape so that they can both absorb and dish out punishment. Fans who attend an MMA fight can expect to be treated to a vast array of fighting techniques.
