I am NOT one of them but maybe it is the 'rural' or 'farm' mentality in that animals are for work and not part of the family.

One of my daughters who moved to North Dakota had a hard time with this. Many people had dogs running loose just to be guard dogs or to herd. Even some people who didn't have farms, didn't let them in the house even in the very bitter cold winters. One family she knew had a hound dog tied to a tree 24/7. Anytime she'd go over, she'd stay outside for a while to pet and play with the dog. The next time she went over, the dog was gone and she asked about it. The guy said he shot it because it barked too much. Then he said they were going to get a different kind of dog that didn't bark. Sickening. She never went over there again.

I guess worse than it is get a dog or a cat and when you realize that it needs caring and food, shower and loving, you're not able to give or you don't have patience and so you put the pet into the car and leave it in some far street...

I wish I knew the answer. In Arizona, stray dogs and cats are picked up all the time by the animal control. So many are euthanized every week. Yet, people will go buy a puppy from a pet store instead of going to a rescue. We have many rescues for mutts and specific breeds but they are all full. If someone adopts from the rescue, then the rescue has an empty space and they can go to the animal control to save one more.

There is no point of someone having a dog and not interacting with them. To me, my two dogs are my beloved companions and make me smile every day. They are so happy to see me even if I leave for one hour.

I must go now to my son's house to feed his three cats. The old one, who is 20, needs special food and medication. My son just traveled to Vietnam to bring his fiance to Arizona. He won't be back for a week. He has had all of the cats since they were kittens. All of them were just roaming around as strays when he took them. He has a love of animals like I do.

i'm not one of them either and I don't understand it.
Maybe when nobody is home, and there may be possibility of a doggy escaping from the house, it gives kind of explaination but
other than that, they should be free at least on backyards.

In Arizona, the poor thing would probably die because our temps get so high. But NO water? Nope, don't understand that at all.

Yes... What's with that?? I read a post about people against this and I totally agree. Idiot pet owners.

i think the best way to teach these losers a lesson is by tying them up in a chain for an entire day out of the house without water.
that should teach these bas***** a lesson or two.
