This is a repeat from a post to N+ about female gamers. 
Personally, as a girl, I try to stay balanced between the smothered in pink, bubble eyed animal, non blood spurting scenarios and games that should fly under the girl radar.. And I don't need a pink controller to like what I'm playing either. Not saying that animal crossing, donkey konga, Nintendogs or other games of the sort are not entertaining. But are they quality? I will invest maybe an hour at a time to training a puppy, but I get tired of it, or running errands for colorful cute animals, until I realize I'm tired of getting nowhere. When it comes down to it, I want a difficult setting, something that takes strategy. Final Fantasy(any one of them), Halo, House of the Dead, Dead or Alive, Metal Gear Solid, Street fighter,Perfect Dark, Mortal Kombat, Silent Hill, Oblivion, Contra, Platoon, .. these are a small example of games that don't exactly scream girlish appeal, but these are the games I'd rather play. Anyone can spend a day working the pokemon and training a dog to sit to earn a bow tie from its walk. The thing I guess I'm not sure how I feel about it is the look of shock when I say I beat a game I shouldn't/wouldn't be expected to play. (especially when I beat it faster than anyone I know.) And does that mean you expect me to be a mutant? I bet you'd be shocked
