Dance Me to My Song

This movie treats the concept of sexuality of disabled people. All people are sexual (including this disabled woman), whether or not they engage in sexual acts. Being sexual is not only about sexual acts; it also includes thoughts, attitudes, and feelings. This movie shows that even people with a severe form of cerebral palsy still have a desire to have sex. Although physical and mental impairments may significantly alter their ability to function sexually, this does not eliminate basic desires for love, affection, and intimacy. I think that sexuality is essential to being human and that the notion of sexual rights is a subset of the larger body of human rights. They encompass the right to experience a pleasurable sexuality, which is essential in and of it, and, at the same time, is a fundamental vehicle of communication and love between people. Sexual rights include the right to liberty and autonomy in the responsible exercise of sexuality." Thus, the relationship between Julia and Eddie was clearly portraying the rights to experience a pleasurable sexuality.
Julia can choose Eddie as her sexual partner, but I am not quite sure whether Eddie wants to be closer to Julia because he really loves her or just because he feels sorry for her.. I think that the young and handsome man named Eddie is also quite mysterious guy.
In term of sexual and reproductive health, I think that Julia was quite aware of it. It was clearly shown that she prepares condoms in her toilet. Actually, she aware about safe-sex (but not be mentioned for preventing STD or pregnancy). This movie represents condom as the way to practice safe-sex. According to the concept of bodily integrity --the right to security in and control over one's body, this movie represents that Julia puts to much value on her right not only to enjoy the full potential of the body but also to protect from harm to the body. Sexual relationship between Julia and Eddie mentions that both women and men are able to enjoy and express their sexuality, and to do so free from risk of sexually-transmitted diseases, unwanted pregnancy, coercion, violence and discrimination.
