Gmail, just say no

On the off chance any of you are considering a Gmail (google email) account, you might want to read the Gmail Privacy FAQ: <http://www.epic.org/privacy/gmail/faq.html>
And if you want a superior alternative (with none of the privacy issues) for sorting, filtering, and searching your email consider getting the Opera Web browser which includes a very slick email client.
Opera's mail client is a combined e-mail database, news reader, mailing list organizer and RSS newsfeed reader. It *automatically* handles mailing lists, sorts mail by contact (retrieving all correspondence from a particular contact is a single mouse click), and slices and dices it many other ways. No more manually setting up filters and rearranging the contents of your inbox. It's search feature is *excellent* (Opera Mail does a full-text indexing of your entire e-mail archive). Highly recommended. Details here: <http://www.opera.com/products/user/m2/>
Oh, did I mention the very capable spam filter? I haven't received an email from Chris in weeks. Furthermore, the Opera browser is compelling enough even without the email client and recommended by CERT[1] as a defense against security risks associated with Internet Explorer.
