It seems to be all but confirmed. Jon Favreau (director of Iron Man) and Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man, Sherlock Holmes, that not-black guy from Tropic Thunder & all around pretty cool guy) are teaming up again to bring the graphic novel "Cowboys and Aliens" to the big (and probably 3D the way things are going lately) screen...

IMDB.com lays out the plot like this : "In Silver City, Arizona, Apache Indians and Western settlers must lay their differences aside when an alien spaceship crash lands in their city."
